The cats will be in the thick of it come finals but this is definitely the sort of game they lose by a fair margin. post bye, playing interstate, bringing in a few underdone players, the ridiculous restrictions imposed by the SA government... I reckon Port win by several goals. Like, 6+ goals.
 
Geelong are gifted by playing their bunnies for the last decade & half after a bye ;)
So we all agree this game will be a shitfest.
played them after a bye in 2019 when we were 10-1 and lost!Port have won the last two at adelaide oval. Not exactly bunnies!

Interesting data Ron, so most of these instances look to be related to the World Wars - then there is a cluster recently which I suspect is due to the advances in sport science, the reduction in on field violence, and higher pay. I reckon Geelong are gambling that players can play longer than thought and still be effective ie mid 30s.

Yeah they're pushing the envelope, a little like North in 2016 who fell into the finals 12-10 after starting 9-0. But Geelong showed in 2011 that they can manage an older team effectively. Not too different from last year, really; just a little older.
