AFL Executive General Manager Clubs and Broadcasting Travis Auld said he thanked everyone for their understanding as the league confirmed the updated fixture for Round 21 of the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

“Geelong will host the GIANTS on Friday night at GMHBA Stadium after the Western Bulldogs vs. Essendon match was moved to Sunday to enable adequate days’ break,” Mr Auld said.

“The West Coast Eagles vs. Melbourne match, previously scheduled for Saturday will now take place on Monday night at Optus Stadium. This allows for Melbourne to travel to Perth today and serve their quarantine period before the game as approved by the Western Australian Government.

“We are also pleased to confirm Showdown 50 between the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide will take place at Adelaide Oval.

“The St Kilda vs. Sydney Swans Pride Game, which builds on each club’s connection and commitment to the LGBTIQA+ community, will be played on Saturday after previously being scheduled to be played on Sunday.

“There are plenty of key match-ups in Round 21 that will shape the top eight as we near the completion of the home-and-away season.

“While the fixture for the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season remains a week-to-week proposition, we will continue to make changes that best navigate the current environment, progresses our season and helps protect the health and safety of those in our game and the wider community.”

Further information relating to crowds and ticketing for Round 21 will be communicated as soon as those details are finalised.

The AFL will continue to issue a media release within 24 hours following each match detailing the penalties to be offered to players for incidents from that day of matches, or the reasons why no further action was to be taken. The clubs and players then have until 11:00am AEDT the following day to decide whether to accept the penalty on offer, or whether they wish to contest the charge at a Tribunal hearing. The AFL will formally detail all instances of whether cases will proceed to the Tribunal or not. There is no set day for the Tribunal to be held.

Ralphy just said the Geelong v Giants is now the Friday night game. Apparently Essendon moaned that they didn't want a 5 day break, so the AFL thought it was OK to make the Giants have a 5 day break instead and have the shortest recovery time between games of any team. LOL!

But all I keep hearing is the AFL hates 'em.

Now I don't know what is going on!!!

About time the club stood up for themselves. After being absolutely stuffed around by the AFL we had to get something to go our way. Maybe if we hadn’t of been shipped off to QLD whilst all the other Vic sides were at home it would have been ok

So Essendon can't play Friday night because their game this week was moved to Sunday...
But GWS who have been away from home for ages and played the last game of the round will play Friday instead? What is the logic behind that decision?

It has zero logic. No team, besides the Swans, has been away from home longer than the Giants. They've been well shafted here.

I think it must be because the Giants are one of the last remaining sides not to have played off a 5 day break. I agree that they have been reamed more broadly (along with Sydney), but I remember hearing each team agreed to one x five day break during season. I am guessing this is the Giants turn.

Fair enough if that's the case. They couldn't have picked a tougher week to have it! 2 months on the road, playing the flag favourites on their home ground, and after copping more injuries yesterday.

Tasmanian authorities have decided to pull out of hosting its scheduled AFL game between Collingwood and Hawthorn.

The game was set to be played this weekened at the University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston, but has been canned over fresh Covid fears.
Premier Peter Gutwein announced the decision on Thursday, impacting the round 21 clash, after the state recorded its first Covid-19 case in 12 months.
The match was to take place on Sunday at 2.10pm local time.
Mr Gutwein said he had reached out to the AFL but had not yet spoken with the league’s CEO Gillon MacLauchlan about the decision.
