Wowee you don't honestly believe this right? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because you've probably been egged on, but you had a very good run today.

Can you list the third of your best 22 that were out? Or is it more that they were running around in the magoos?

Some debate to be had here. Most Blues supporters would say Martin, Fisher, C Curnow, Silvagni and Williams are best 22, Marchbank probably, Newman because of the way we have been travelling, De Koning ahead of Pittonet for sure and the speculator is Brodie Kemp who we all think will walk into our side but that's a fairytale at the moment.

Also, the whole baby Bombers thing against our much more mature team is not as pronounced as people think it is:

Today's result irrelevant. Bombers have more upside. 2020 draft crop very impressive.

Uh huh, our reserves beat theirs handily as well.

But sure, not much upside in Walsh, McKay, Weitering, Parks, not to mention Curnow and Kemp who are looking at returns in a few weeks.

Neither team is going anywhere in a hurry. Walsh will improve, but how much more? Weitering is above average. Curnow can't get on the park. McKay straightens them up. It's Carlton's bottom 6 or so playing in the seniors that's the problem. Some very average players there. Imo Essendon have brighter prospects off the back of the 2020 draft and what they might be able to bring in this year. Carlton effectively gave away one of Jones, Perkins, Cox for a half back flanker - good luck with that one.

Sounds like the empty rhetoric we copped in 2016. Good kids, bright future, sure to overtake mid-range teams in a couple of years. Not that easy in practice.

Other teams work you out, decent senior players leave and young players succumb to lapses in form and confidence - often concurrently. Big job ahead for Rutten.

Our ressies also smashed theirs.

Edit - It was actually Reid for the Saad pick. The guy we got with the pick from Essendon (Carroll) will be better IMO.

Agree, it's not easy. Much easier to develop players in a good team. Gone are the days when you could build a team off interstate recruiting and development of your country and metro zones (as Carlton did well in the '60s, 70's and 80's). But where both teams sit atm, imho I think Essendon has more upside. I don't understand the negativity coming from some of their supporters.

This is more embarrassing for Carlton than bad for us.

Simply embarrassing.

They'll be going no where while we only have up to go from here. How do you go down to the wire against kids. Lol.

Enjoy your No Man's Land, Blues.
Ahaha...excellent.
Today was ‘simply embarrassing’ for Carlton..great take.

Both sides were very evenly matched in what was a true 50-50 game. Though we were statistically the better side, Carlton were more efficient which was the difference in the end.

Carlton have more depth given they've started the rebuild before us, but I'd say with bias that we have nailed more picks than Carlton have.
With Carlton being more experienced and older, it's not far-fetched to say that we have more upside given our young side matched it with yours. It's just speculation at this stage.

Our reserves is filled with a bunch of teenage VFL players. Atley who is our captain at 22 is one of our most experienced players. you guys had the likes of Kennedy and Setterfield playing today who are more experienced than VFL players like Dunkley and Atley. Wouldn't read into our VFL form much if at all, especially when the little depth we have are playing at AFL level.

Luke Darcy: "He's come back from two knee reconstructions and he hasn't missed a beat, Sam Docherty..."

Interesting.. Everyone else, Blues fans included, universally agree that Docherty is a shell of the player he was prior to his knee injuries.

It goes to show, Luke Darcy mainly relies on the stats sheets for his knowledge and probably doesn't watch much footy when he isn't calling the game.
No wonder the All Australian team has so many players picked on reputation & stats with muppets like Darcy on the selection panel.

Two late points: Docherty also had testicular cancer in the off season and I hope next year he'll be closer to what he was.

Luke Darcy is actually the worst commentator on 7 and that's really saying something.

The bottom 6 would be replaced by Williams, Martin, TDK, SOS, Fisher, Curnow, Newman and probably even Kemp.
So there's 8 players trying to squeeze into the bottom 6 spots and all would make the team better.

Youre a fair poster and look was definitely overreacting there.

FWIW

Charlie Curnow
TDK
Z Fisher
Martin
JSOS
Z Williams

are the 6 clear best 18 missing due to injury

Can argue over guys like Kemp (inj) Setterfield (dropped)

Kennedy played a half of footy.
Setterfield is only 23yo.
We had a bunch of kids in the VFL too.
From the AFL listed players:
O'Brien 21yo
De Koning 21yo
Durdin 19yo
Williamson 22yo
Honey 19yo
Ramsay 20yo

The only other two AFL listed players who played were:
Kennedy 24yo
Newman 28yo (first game back from knee)

Not playing:
Philp 19yo

Injured:
Kemp 20yo
Silvagni 23yo
Carroll 18yo
Fisher 22yo
Curnow 24yo
Marchbank 24yo
McDonald 25yo
Williams 26yo
Martin 26yo
Murphy 33yo

So most of the older guys weren't even playing VFL.
