Reminds me of 17 when we smacked St Kilda and Freo in the last two games to make top 4.Handy burst of form and confidence going towards the end of the season for the Tiges.
He’s retiring ffs. It’s a bit different.
So much for the hawks wanting to honour “champions of the club”
Also getting rid of Clarko for Mitchell
If you’re looking for a difference, I don’t recall Hawthorn finishing top 4 year upon year and failing habitually year on year during the period you raise. You won four finals and lost eight between flags.
Does that mean the September 31 joke applied to Hawthorn at the same stage?

Pretty similar with unearthing Cumberland , Maurice and Sonsie much like Castagna, Butler and Townsend got so much confidence right before finals in 17.
Even still it’s a massive effort to win from outside top 4 and could be playing Brisbane Fremantle or Sydney interstate in elimination final makes it tough.
Losing a lot of close games will be a killer as you win those ones and your sitting top 3-4.
Very happy with the bounce back from last year but most importantly done it without Dusty and Bolton has taken that leap, Baker and Rioli went to another level and getting Sonsie Rioli , Miller and Cumberland in. Almost like a mini rebuild / refresh.
Got plenty of early draft picks again this year.
