Geelong not worried by two losses because they’ll get better and peak in September? Utter garbage… this club has had a decade of failure in September before last year whereby we not only lost but got spanked with some games being over 10 minutes into the 2nd quarter! What’s Scott’s win % in September compared to H & A? And he has said many times previously it’s important to bank early wins so you can rest players later on in the season and not play catch up. Towards the back end of the year. Utter arrogance coming from some expecting cats to be peaking in September! They’ll be playing marbles in September if they’re not careful!

To me the biggest difference is the output in Close and Atkins, and the effect it's having on the midfield. Neither have really had any impact in either game (could extend it to Stengle and Miers too to an extent). They were vital last year - especially as the season wore on. They had the younger legs to do the hard running in the midfield, allowing us to have Selwood and Dangerfield as impact players off the bench. That was critical, as Dangerfield had been slowing down long before this season. Now opposition teams are putting work in Close and Atkins we need others to take up the slack. Guthrie until the last quarter has been awful as well which doesn't help.

And age is always going to be a factor. There are still plenty of veterans, all another 6 months older. Everything clicked superbly last September but there's never a guarantee about it happening again. Tuohy definitely looks sluggish, whether from injury or not. Hawkins doesn't look right yet either.

They need to improve a lot regardless.

Close was hard done by last night. Ran a lot and got inexplicably ignored or missed 5-6 times when he was a logical kick or handball option.

This game was testament to the draw and importance of excellent attacking forwards, and they should steal some of the palavery drool midfielders often get.

Long live premium forwards, and stfu you overrated mids ;)

We were 2-2 or something to start last year. Not panic time yet especially with more than half the backline missing.

What I will say is that we aren’t playing with much swagger, we are playing like a team who is ‘trusting the process’ - there is a reason aside from the fact that he’s arguably the best player in the game that Cameron looked on another planet last night - he is playing like a premier player on the premier team: you can throw everything at us but I’m going to keep taking marks and kicking goals and there really isn’t a lot you can do about it. Needs more help of that sort from players like Danger.

Well done to Carlton, played with skill and composure and deserved the win.
Cameron has taken his game to another level thats for sure

Unbelievable the bullshit people bang on about. Geelong are 0-2 but have some injuries and have played two top 8 sides, Collingwood will be top 4. I really don’t think it’ll matter, the season is long as the Cats will be hitting their straps by round 10 onwards. The younger upstart teams will start hitting a wall by then.

Geelong a massive chance for back to back.

Agreed. Whilst Charlie dominated up forward for the winning team, Jezza dominated all throughout the ground including up forward and bagging the most goals in the game
A monumental game from Cameron. He will rightly get the 3 votes on Brownlow night. He is a champion but I'm sorry there will only ever be one Jezza.

Add Walsh Hewitt and williams and the Blues win by 6 goals, wait...just kick straight earlier and the game is done and dusted before halftime..Carlton were the superior side for all bar 10 minutes of the game.

Wouldn’t have had those shots on goal if their back line was playing. Geelong are depleted and behind the rest of the comp in preparation. Perfect time to be playing them.
