On paper this one looks like it should be a comfortable win for the Dees but as we know in season 2023 there is no such thing as a predictable game. We saw this exact fixture last year ended up being pretty close despite Melbourne coming in as the defending premiers and Gold Coast coming off a 16th finish:

ROUND 2 2022 @ METRICON STADIUM
MELBOURNE | 3.1 (19) | 9.1 (55) | 12.5 (77) | 12.10 (82)
GOLD COAST | 2.3 (15) | 6.5 (41) | 8.7 (55) | 10.9 (69)

I think this one will be closer than some think.

Can't believe we lost to Gold Coast.
Watching them again yesterday, they tried their best to get Richmond back into the game in the final quarter.

Melbourne don't need any percentage boosting so doubt they put the foot down but a 40 point win should be easily manageable.

Yeah nah not this year (I hope…)

Melbourne had their percentage booster on the weekend just gone; not sure they really need to put their foot down and go for a huge margin again. Reckon the Dees win a close-ish one and they might even keep the Suns in the game long enough to give them a chance.

We are a chance. Think a Dees win, but this isn't a foregone conclusion.
I agree with both posts. I think we should win but I can see this being a close game and is a danger game for us imo

Fun fact: David Swallow, Sam Day, Jack Viney and Tom McDonald are the only players left on either list that played when Gold Coast last beat Melbourne (April 20, 2014).

I am in agreeance with posters saying this will be a close game. Gold Coast I think are a much better team at home, they probably pump Richmond at home, this definitely is a danger game.

This game will be captain Jarrod Witts' 150th. We pulled off a pretty big win against Geelong earlier this year in David Swallow's 200th. Can lightning strike twice for us in a milestone game at home?

A few decent suns players out this week, I’m addition to our best midfielder.

Can’t see us being in with an actual shout of winning.

Just hope we play ok.
