After round 24? Some big IF's going on here. This is madness, what if they both make the 8? No Pre finals BYE for them. Something has shifted in the last couple of years with the AFL and it's not good, i get a feeling this administration has dropped the ball since Gil left. The NRL are making ground and the AFL have to act quickly before they are overtaken. I have a bad feeling about all of this.

It says Essendon and Gold Coast will play round 24. That's not the bye round.

The confusing thing is we already play Carlton in round 24.. So it sounds like we play 2 games in the same round.

If we knew the cyclone in Queensland was gonna happen , gold coast and Essendon would of got a bye In round 3 or 4 just like Brisbane vs cats

It seems like a farcical scheduling from the AFL admins.

Not sure if the current people heading the AFL have played AFL but this isn't the NBA where you can play back to back games in a relatively short amount of time.

My thinking is they have to give teams a minimum of at least 4 days between games, as Essendon are scheduled to play Carlton and Gold Coast in Rd 24.

Gold Coast are scheduled to play Essendon and Port Adelaide in that same round.

Even a 4 day break seems like its going to stretch both sides. And Monday Night Football is unlikely to work. So the best case scenario I can see is both Essendon and Gold Coast matches playing on a Thursday, and their 2nd fixture of that round being on a Sunday. I also highly doubt the AFL would play on a Wednesday given its a working week.
