Where were the wizard hats last night? The cringiest thing I’ve ever seen in football

Embarrassing supporters
Having fun is so embarrassing 😭😭😭😭

It isn’t that serious my guy

Hawks looked goodish.
Swans looked lacklustre with no match winners… maybe Warner? Looks to have regressed in the post Longmire era.
It seems we lost all of our run, especially off the half back line. That third quarter was awesome, took the ball back up the corridor and ran! Scored 4 goals quickly.

That should be the template but with more defence, stoppages and tackling which has been sorely missing over the last few seasons. Need to combine that with that dashing flair through the corridor.

Already annoys me one game into the season but wow if Barrass played 'really well' this game then the bar of expectations for tall defenders to play a really good game is at an all time low.
Its a system based defence that he’s not played before

He didn’t give up anything really beyond a dumb free

Really well is not a fair assessment granted, he was serviceable

I just don’t think he was bad

Last night confirm the "bloods culture" is well and truly dead. I was expecting a physical unrelenting swans side on the back of an embarrassing grand final effort. Instead they were beaten on the inside losing clearances, had less tackles and were on track to give up over 100 uncontested marks until the rain arrived and Hawks played more direct due to the conditions.

Sign of things to come for Swans be in the game for most part of it and be blowen away late.
I think they are mentaly spent.
Would not surprise me they missed finals this year.
They have to mini re build again.
They players are cooked and its not 2022 anymore.
Time has past them,
Good win by hawks but like the pies v gws they played swans at a good time same with the pies getting gws i think no better time to beat gws is now.
Not getting carried way was a lack luster game and was plain and boring.
Must have been a wet deck ball was slippery and player falling over.

Great game, Hawks deserved the win

Think we have a lot more upside with many down on the night

Hawks looked good but have a number of flaws still. Forward line is very ordinary and They’ll be praying for an injury free season from Day

Don't want to extrapolate too much from one game, however, Swans may suffer a primadonna syndrome up in Sydney, and the weight of expectation it brings. They are very self-serious too. Every little setback is a calamity, a tear jerker. Where is the Joy? I think the Joy is def down at Glenferrie where they just play with freedom.

As my own club will be playing soon, I have a similar opinion about them... frail, mentally damaged, joyless, anxious, fearful. I'd like to be wrong.

Hawthorn's midfield smashed Sydney's - pretty simple game analysis innit? Sydney need a genuine big body mid to balance out their fast runners - that was supposed to be Grundy the modern day template for ruckmen ....Meeks has developed really well since half way through last year has discovered he has size over most ruckmen and is using it to good effect.

Very impressive long kicking to advantage by Hawthorn - a great answer to the full press zone defense.

He took several clutch intercept marks which is a prime reason we got him. Amartey is actually a tricky matchup for him because he's fast and agile for his size. He's more suited to the Hawkins type forwards or a Harry McKay.

It's ordinary ATM because there's no structure due to injuries. think that's pretty obvious. Chol was the only tall and he did a reasonable job considering. If we can kick 14 goals without most of the forward line firing that doesn't bode well for the rest of the comp does it?. Lot more upside 😂, as I mentioned above we had at least half a dozen players who had poor games who make us a 5 goal better side if there up and about. You can cling on to the fact you might think you have more upside but realistically only Gulden and McDonald improve your side from last night. We have Dear and Lewis to slot in next to Chol so we can make the most of nearly 60 entries in the future.

Like I’ve said multiple times.. Hawthorn are bringing the game into disrepute with these F50 frees, milking high contact.. no different from a soccer player diving for a penalty

Forward line definitely our weak point, but :
a) We still have Lewis, Dear and Breust to play around with later in the season. Gunston was fit, but deemed not the right choice on the night, but could play a role some weeks depending on matchups/injuries. Sicily could play full games down there given our backline depth now.
b) We nearly scored 100, despite Watson and Ginnivan having poor nights. Only two away teams scored more at the SCG
last season, and we were only one goal away from beating the highest oppo score at the SCG last season. If that is what a very ordinary forward line did to you, Sydney fans might be looking at a very long season.

Good game to start off.

Swans look vulnerable up front.

Gulden out is huge for them

Not really convinced about the Hawks up front either. Sicily will be spending a lot of time forward.
That's because our two main targets are injured. It will look clunky until we get at least 1 back. We looked pretty good in the last qtr when Sicily went down there.

It was a great game to watch. The Swans were very disappointing, just seemed like Warner was the only one that came to play. They lack attacking outlets and rely on a few players too much.

Hawks midfield dominated, that will be a theme this year they are very good in there and young. Newcombe is such a gun and it looks like Day has gone to another level.

Hawks definitely the better of the sides and deserved the win. Hopefully Worpel isn't badly hurt, very good player

"free kick Hawthorn" is back !!

And someone tell Mabior Chol that he's not an extra in a 60's cowboy movie, get rid of the ****ing headband and shit dreadies.
Really, the free kicks were even and 3 of the swans first five goals were awarded from free kicks. More like they have no chance of ever getting the free ride that carlton gets with goals given from free kicks to McKay and Curnow.
