I wasn’t suggesting injuries as our upside at all, Wicks Warner and a couple of others aside we had a lot down on the night whereas I think Hawks played close to their ceiling.

Having said that Mills Gulden Fox and McDonald come back into the 22 will improve it

Grundy is a big concern, was he carrying something or is he done? I think Ladhams would’ve provided much more

Hopefully Cox doesn’t repeat his predecessors habit of selecting players who are underdone as Papley also looked proppy

Enjoy the win Hawkers, as they say, winners are grinners and the rest can do as they please
Close to our ceiling? Laughable comment considering we had several players not fire a shot and both Barass and Battle will need time to gel with their new team mates and the structures. Adding Lewis and Dear will improve our forward structure significantly. We played well but we can definitely play at a higher level.

Anyone who thinks that's as good as it gets with the Hawks will be in for a very unpleasant surprise.

And its Round 1 / 0 no one is playing at their best

I thought the umps were horrible to be honest. Made some absolute shocking calls. Pure guesswork.

It went both ways though at least.
Think they were a little over the top inside 50 for both teams. But it went both way, and some guesswork with 15m kicks. Wasn’t the worst tho.

Don't want to extrapolate too much from one game, however, Swans may suffer a primadonna syndrome up in Sydney, and the weight of expectation it brings. They are very self-serious too. Every little setback is a calamity, a tear jerker. Where is the Joy? I think the Joy is def down at Glenferrie where they just play with freedom.

As my own club will be playing soon, I have a similar opinion about them... frail, mentally damaged, joyless, anxious, fearful. I'd like to be wrong.
I wouldn’t call the undertakers just yet.

We’re actually getting quite good at bouncing back after getting pantsed in grand finals.

I mean, we’ve had a lot of practise at it over the last decade.

lol let me know when Watson kicks 76 goals in a sentence and 9 goals in a half of footy.
Generally speaking some of our great small forwards have not reached that mainly because we share the load. Jeff did this in his 6th year of football but i doubt watson will kick that many. By the way Cyril never kicked that many goals let alone Luke breust who were are more consistent. Jeff did that one year. His total goals means he wasn't very consistent. He was a good player but I would rather he use Breust as an example to aspire to

Wicks isn't getting enough credit for his job on Watson.

He played a very good dour game on the Wiz. Watson is only young so plenty of time to learn to deal with that extra attention.

I would have thought it would have been a night for small forwards to run riot but none of Papley, Moore, CMac, Wiz, Ginni fired much of a shot.

lol. Luke Breust in the same sentence as Jeff Farmer, come on now. Cyril was a gun and is one of the all time greats. As was Farmer. Watson was the laughing stock of the competition with his horrendous goal kicking accuracy and even had his captain yelling at him after missing goals from the goal square. But definitely credit where credit is due, he played well in the finals. But come the end of his career, there's a 1% chance he'll have a better career than Farmer and a 0.5% chance his highlights will be better.

Nick Watson will be Kako, wherever they both end up.

Anyway, this is getting off topic. :)

Lol Luke breust is a superstar of the comp. And has kicked a lot more goals then most of the small forwards that have played the game. One of the best front and center players i have ever seen

Edit by the way if Watson had kicked straight he would have kicked 40+ goals in his first season think about that

lol he's a forward. it's called having a defender. :)

Good luck thinking Watson will ever come close to the real Wiz despite being a handy player.
Jeff the wiz Farmer was talented both at demons at Freo.

Farmers best season at the demons was that 70 goal season in 2000 as demons made the grand final.

I enjoyed farmers best season at the dockers. 55 goals in 2006. Dockers made a prelim final. 34 of those goals came during that time freo won 9 games in a row late in 2006.

Not as good as his 70 goal 2000 season. But yeah his 34 goals in freos 9 game winning streak was as good as his best patch at the demons.

It’s good to see the umpires are not falling for that free kick seeking Watson tonight. If he has no regard for his head and wants to ram it into Essendon defenders all night trying to get a free kick, let him learn the hard way. Huge talent and could be anything, but not playing in the spirit of the game atm.
