R.I.P Port's premierships window. 2020-2024. It has likely closed and they could be a genuine bottom 4 side this year after that performance, being beaten by a Collingwood side that got smashed by GWS a week ago. You can already see the smoke coming from the coaching "transition", from Houston's trade request and from butter's injury. Thanks for reading my overreaction to r1.
Probably, although, Hawthorn did get pumped by 1st game Adelaide in 1991 by 86 points in round 1, and Hawthorn went on to win the premiership that same season. Round 1 or even the first half of a given season doesn't really define a team's performance, especially last year where Brisbane were awful in the first half, but then went onto win the premiership.

It's fairly common to start with a little grand final hangover and then grow into a season. Brisbane were in that category.

How many premiers have been prelim finalists or worse the previous year, then started terribly the next year? In that respect, slow starts for sides like Collingwood, Port and Freo would not bode well. But I'm talking 3-4 weeks of being awful, not 1 or 2.

Same with the Crows in the first Showdown, going down to Port Est.1997 😉

Pendles looks slow, even being the sub, yeah we know his mind is sharp, and has never had leg speed, but his in close ball skills has slowed, not writing him off just yet, question is can the Pies win the whole box and dice without him?
think he'll end up being the sub more than once this season, he did fine last night (but realistically, i don't think you'd have lost without him on the field). he's still a solid player, just think he'll struggle to line up in the middle consistently.

Thanks, but that doesn't really answer the question.

The Pies are all chips in, make no mistake on that.

So I'll ask BF again, so I don't wanna put just you on the spot.

Can the Pies win the whole box and dice, read win the flag, this year without an optimal Scott Pendlebury?

Massive questions down at the wharves.

Their team lacks in certain areas, defence and forward, and rely heavily of their mids in Rozee, Butters and JHF to kick goals.

The ongoing question about the handover in coaches needs to be ended.
It didn't work with Hawthorn, so just move over to Carr now.

At 37yo, we would hope so.
Pendles needs to be the icing on top and not the reason.
If Pendles can be an on-field coach and instruct, whilst still completing a role, then we are in a good position.

If we are relying on Pendles to be the main man at 37, then something is amiss.
If things were tight in the last qrt of a big game, I would want his brain working more than his leg speed.

He doesn't need to be the best Pendles, just Pendles.
