I didn't think the umps had any real impact on tonight. A couple crap calls either way and a few missed ones.

Blues ran out of legs again which ultimately was their downfall, barely noticed the umps for most of the night.
Blues were expected to win tonight. They were expect to go undefeated by the Victorian media LoL

TDK is an absolute jet btw

Carlton have plenty of stars, the role players line is a cop out, every side got plenty of role players.. they aren’t shit, you gotta be decent to play AFL, they turfed Kennedy for peanuts who was one of the best players on the ground tonight

It’s the coaching, give the keys to Chris Scott and that side is competing for a flag or any other decent coach
Keep Vossy @ the blose!

Not sure what Victorian media you’ve been privy to!

I have a soft spot for Voss for some reason, not just because of his playing career, perhaps it's a bit irrational.
Perhaps it's because of Patrick White, who is also out of fashion, to our intellectual detriment. Perhaps Judd should take up coaching to have life imitating art and us reading more in wonderment.

Anyway, for 3 qtrs last night the blues were playing a more precision game, picking out leads and finding loose targets. It worked, even though Dogs dominated possession with their frenetic bee buzzing high possession flicking hand ball game style they have persisted with for a decade now, which often doesn't bear fruit, and which caused a mini revolution in ball movement in 2016. It caused you'll recall most clubs in the summer of 16-17 to start drilling in training close-in flicking handballs as a way of transitioning the ball from inside to outside. The method is still around today, but most clubs don't take it to the Dog's extreme. The Dees famously crushed that trend like an international proletarian movement in 2021 in a blitzkrieg that could have caused Belgium to surrender.

Ironically while the Dee's blitzkrieg pilots have recently grown a bit overweight and slow like Hermann Goering himself did, the Dogs manic circular ball flicking to release a loose man still persists to this day like the anachronistic "socialist" and " communistist" does in the names of a selection of countries.

Last night when it got quite hot the Blues resorted to the default "kick to a contest" and they were losing many of those contests. A freakish Kemp performance helped them earlier in the game, and papered over the lack of scoring options, while the Dogs had plenty of goal kickers. The Dogs prevailed like a whirring machine in the night that never turns off and keeps you awake and annoyed with its persistence.

The dump kick default returned for the Blues in the very moment they needed to maintain their more precise kicking and running to space. The kleptomaniac even after years of clean living reverts to thievery if they think noone is watching. They failed their own test. But there will be another test next week, and they'd better stay tuned into the new program for a full 4 qtrs to have any chance against Collingwood, who are the France of the AFL, with their flair, history, sheer size, and their fondness for the guillotine.

Maybe the ARC have the untouched feed to use. Foxtel have a 4K broadcast at 25Mbps while I believe the original untouched feed would be at 80-100Mbps. But at 50fps you are still missing action between frames.

When they play the footage after a score review was called we are seeing what they are seeing. They just have what the broadcaster has which is the problem with ARC.

"Most broadcast cameras operate at a phase alternating line (PAL) standard of 50 frames-per-second while a few super slow motion cameras operate at 150 FPS or even 300 FPS on special occasions like grand finals.

Even with super slow motion cameras the likelihood of blurry vision occurring depends on exposure time when filming live sport. A lower exposure time is more likely to reduce motion blur for replays that adjudicators rely upon. However, television producers want higher exposure time for the cameras they set up to shoot live sport to ensure vibrant colours accompany the action."

Soccer, Tennis, etc have their own cameras they are used exclusively for reviews, they don't use the broadcaster's feed. AFL is just cheap, this is why we have this shit system.
