I thought the trick of naming Stewart then the late change was clever.

We’ve never seen them pull that trick.

If they flew Stewart up (as I believe they did), he was at least some chance.

You can do that with injured stars when you're at home; you don't jeopardise their recovery for the sake of mind games (and waste a potentially crucial emergency spot) when you're playing on the other side of the country.

It happens so frequently with Geelong that there is certaintly an element of them thinking they are very clever.

Feel free to check the injury list too.

If people on Big Footy (including me) were sceptical about Stewart playing during the week and after he was named, how likely do you really think it is that Brisbane would be thrown into disarray by the late change, or that Geelong would seriously think it would be worth it just to hoodwink the Lions?

When planning for the trip to Brisbane, the medical staff gave Stewart some chance of getting up (though they were hardly locking it in), he's one of the best in the league in his position, so naturally Geelong's going to give him until shortly before the game to make a final call. If he was never a chance, it's simply not worth flying him up in the first place.

Unless it screwed up someone's Supercoach team, I'm not sure why anyone would really care... and Supercoach just doesn't matter that much, sorry.

Not that I'm excusing a poor night with ball in hand by Smith (and some others), but our marking targets up forward presented and contested to a disgracefully poor level. Cameron, Neale and Henry were given absolute baths. Overall Brisbane have the perfect defence to neutralise our forwards for large periods.

Cameron was quite disappointing as has been touched upon in this thread, didn't really try to impact the game at all. He and Henry really left Neale floundering by himself up against Payne with Andrews chopping in.

Didn't help that the ball kept being kicked long down the line to a 2 on 1 (and Neale was usually the Geelong player under it).

I thought S.Neale battled his guts out, although the marks and goals weren't there, he played his role. We've typically struggled against the likes of Adams and Payne. Neale stuck to his task in tough conditions. He needed a bit more support from his more experienced teammates in the forward line.

He is an awesome talent but also plays for the team (happened in the sydney game and probably yesterday as well) and he has said he would trade his individual success for the premiership.

Hard slog and I thought Geelong had us at 1/2 time - we have some belief but I would like to be closer/ahead come half time so we don't have to keep fighting back.

How good is Zorko going
For a 36 year old he is in good nick - he could play for a few years yet

Lions have a 67% success rate in Prelims since the merger (6W-3L) . Well over par.

One of those wins includes 2004 where we defied one of the most blatantly egregious attempted screwjobs by the AFL in the modern era.

28% DE from Baz. Jesus.

That has to be the lowest I've seen from a 20+ possession game.
stats don't lie but the eye test suggested it wasn't as bad as it looked. Our game plan was to get it forward at all costs and that's what he did, a lot of kicks to contests, very Dangerfield-esque though

Poetic justice, Geelong!
Play stupid games with selection every year and everyone is sick of it. Guess what - teams like Brisbane don’t care who your best 22 is because they have your number anyway.

Tbh at this point everyone knew Stewart wasn’t playing and we probably didn’t prepare for him. But we just smile and nod and tell master coach Chris Scott, “by god, you sure did get us again Mr Scott!”

Genuine comment, watching at the ground it was. He was horrendous.

Ryan "Froggy" Lester showed why he's clearly the most underrated player in the AFL his job on Cameron was fantastic
Agree Lester was excellent against the dangerous Cameron
Payne was very good, especially the second half against the taller Neale. With Lester taking the dangerous Cameron and Payne taking the taller Neale, this allowed Harris to essentially play brilliantly against the smaller Henery.

McClug was great in the second half and many other notable mentions Ashcroft, Berry, Wilmot
