Opinion AFL 2026 Round 11 - Weekend Wrap & Liked, Learnt, Hated

HATED - What idiot thought playing a night game in Tasmania in winter was a good idea.

Remember ages ago, at least two months, the AFL declared that players who dropped the knees when tackled would be pinged for holding the ball. Instead their was a plague of ducking and knee dropping across the round. It is so bad that the commentators are saying that the only option is to not tackle the player with the ball. Boofhead Dunstall was even praising it as a "football skill". It's a blight on the game.

Liked: Some great games of football played this weekend, almost every game was great for a neutral supporter.

Hated: The Pendlebury show was vomit worthy - no disrespect to the Pies honestly, and I expected a flogging tbh, but what an absolute circus, seriously was a VFL WankFest. Only game I ever recall having to watch on mute due to commentators turning this into an 18+ Porn0fest

Liked:
A lot. We won.
The eagles showing some fight and dash.
A round of upsets - and almost upsets.

Learnt:
It’s a foreign and uncomfortable feeling being where Freo are for most of us fans. Flagmantle and Wharfie time aside, we have been burnt before and it’s not something we are used to. Feels like a lot of us would love to have a time machine, peek ahead to GF day final scores, see who won, then come back to now and enjoy the ride having already known the outcome - whatever it is

Hated:
The absolute wank fest around Pendles and the game breaking record. I don’t remember anywhere near as much attention or fanfare for Boomer - and I didn’t even really like the guy. Whereas Pendles I actually don’t mind.

I’m a Freo fan and like most of us - and a decent amount of Eagles fans - we don’t mind seeing the other lose or play a shit game. HOWEVER, the fanfare, commentary and the pretty horrible umpiring, had me muting the commentary, cheering for an upset and wanting so so badly for the eagles to rain on their big parade.

Some things are bigger than rivalries. We can resume normal business as normal this weekend.

Magnificent effort by down-and-out GWS to annihilate Brisbane. Where on earth did that come from? Simply extraordinary.

But FMD - a crowd of 8,394, at their home ground, to see them play the reigning premiers.

I'm not knocking GWS; I really want them to prosper, but that is desperately worrying.
