So he's not in our top 5 players? That's like saying Heeney never plays so he's not a big loss if roles were reversed. It's not about adjusting to him not being there it's about what he brings to the table that can help us win.
Is he actually any good? Sounds like one of those guys that was good, got injured and is now perennially injured and probably won’t get back to his best.

The Hawthorn free kicks in the last 10 minutes were there, The swans players should know better.

It's the staging for frees that is worse, Ginnivan goes to ground before contact even happens.
If you're talking the one near the end of the game where its a ball up, he's not trying to get a freekick. He's trying to get a ball up and waste more time off the clock.
Rowbottom also knew that, its why he didn't actually tackle him as he wanted him to handball it out. Probably should have been ball when McDonald actually tackled him though.

I loved seeing the Hawks fans get animated last night. There were a few passages of play midway through the game where they felt hard done by and it got the crowd on their feet and very involved.

You can’t keep using his absence as an excuse. He never plays.
Sort of agree but then you can't really use Gulden then given he missed most of last year and will now miss most of this year with same injury that Day currently has

That’s fair. Hawthorn will go past Day pretty quickly to be honest. It’s a brutal game and he’ll be forgotten if he is constantly injured.

Hawks win every contest like it’s me playing AFL Live against the PC on the easiest setting

Very good side, granted Sydney missing two stars but Hawthorn are just way too good

Barrass gave Curnow a bath and put him to bed the longer that second half went on
true.
wasn't exactly perfect delivery into the forward line.
But a very disappointing game from. Charlie- who can lack a second effort when the mark doesn't go his way.

Hawks +30 contested possession in the 2nd half.

The umpires are going to reward the player with their head over it if the other team infringe, that's just how the game works.

Last season you showed that Vic sides won a lot of free kick counts early in the season and then it was mostly even week to week later on.
Thats correct, and so far in 2026 Vic clubs have won a lot of free kick counts (7 of 9) so thats the same trend.
It remains to be seen if the trend continues.
Either way its a concerning trend as there is no logical reason for it to happen 2 seasons in a row, atleast.

Yeah, Swans looked a tad tender to me

Managed to fall over the line against a team that finished bottom half last year and missing their best 2 players.

Without Newcombe and Gunston we’d be languishing down the bottom.

Can’t see any premierships any time soon if we don’t get any gun mids in.
Still hard to tell exactly where we are at upcoming games against cats, dogs & suns will give us a better picture.

Thought we were pretty good last night should have won by a fair bit more imo.

Had to have a stalk to see if you're this much of a miserable campaigner often.
Can't help but laugh at this :tearsofjoy:

There was a contest early in the last quarter where Charlie didn't even bother chasing.

Barrass just broke him.

No packing heat then

Sam Mitchell is probably the best tactical coach in the game or at least on par with Chris Scott.

Completely destroyed our ball movement after half time while finding ways for his own side to exploit the width of the ground.

Can we knot wrinkle our brows ….twas a lively contest….the cross…the t…the eyes
T'was a great contest, just a shame that because it featured a Vic team against one from outside Victoria, it has to be Umpired terribly unfairly.
