True. All I was pointing out was that if we had 8-9 of our best players who were out due to injuries, the results would probably have been different as the last two matches had shown.

In the end a full strength team off a bye had the better of you as expected.
Callaghan and Oliver dominated the midfield just lacked the support.
To be only 3 points down in the third and missing many easy opportunities it was a great effort.

it's enough injuries to sink ones boat before the season even starts.
Tough year for the giants
Shows we should have taken advantage too instead we didn't turn up and paid the price. That loss is looking pretty poor now considering the way we played the next 2 games. Should really be 3-0.

Giants horrendous goal kicking was responsible for that until it blew out late.

I'm sure you're convinced by the Pies form line. They've had a super soft run so far.
They have played 2 finalists from last year but both in Melbourne. Nice little cruisey start regarding travel but that's to be expected when your Collingwood. I haven't been that impressed at all really. Defence won them the game last night but against a team with more Firepower they would have been in trouble. We will get a good gauge how they are travelling next Thursday as the Lions will have everybody bar Andrews back for that game.

Green Elite
Kelly A grade
Daniel A Grade
Taylor Elite
Buckley A Grade
Bedford B Grade
Jones B Grade
Cadman A Grade

Collingwood full strength
Daniels isn't A grade he's a solid B grader though and crucial to their run and carry. Similar to Jones. They have speed in the team but those 2 add the class to go with it and it makes a difference.

He looked fine against us but that's because there was very little pressure and he got ball on a silver platter.
man has burnt plenty of defences in the past.
normally a joy to watch
He just looks frustrated and distracted.

Pretty much the story.

Good win for us but Giants are just going to have to ride the storm and hope to get some cattle back

Giants have started terribly
Don’t worry- we’ll finish well! Kingsley has gotten us into the final series in all of the 3 years he’s been our coach. He is the only AFL coach currently coaching in 2026 that has a 100% career record of taking a team into the finals in every year of their tenure.

So the players might be stuck with him for a while. Poor buggers

As for GWS.

Way too many injuries, limited depth. Not many teams would cope missing 8? from best 23. Can they get healthy?

Terrible delivery inside 50. Hogan struggling.

Briggs is a liability with new rules, midfield not strong enough.

Kingsley going off too often, too early in the season.

I missed h2.

Thought Giants had it all covered at half time. Just a couple of adjustments needed up forward. Run them off their legs.

Evidently, not. Pies a well oiled team. More efficient.

Do Giants have the ticker?

Evidently, not.

Next week...
Bit quick to dismiss?!

To be honest IMO Giants kicked themselves out of it. They kicked 7.12, many missed opportunities, particularly in the 3rd when they had momentum of play.

Very late in the game the effort dropped slightly after the pies put it to bed.

Pressure was pretty poor.

Probs from both sides, particularly the last 5 mins.

There were glimpses of both teams pushing up to pressue the ball carrier to turnover (close space game), but not often, Pies did this in familiar fashion at HB / D50 to score a coupla times, Giants didn't capitalize.

I'm not convinced with the game plan's applicability in finals. That's all that matters, really.

Hard to tell, the pies have won a flag off that close space / turn over / run carry game.

This year the evolution of the game seems to be run and gun , with glitzy players burning up the deck with ball speed, coaches and FD's aren't a fan of this.

I suspect the pressure game will re emgerge as the season goes on, that gives the lesser lists (like the pies) a fighting chance.

Yep, pressure's necessity never goes away. It is relative within a game, need to apply more than oppo each week. Giants make finals and lose against harder sides with the current strategy. Who's happy with that.

Well not necessarily, I think you're downmarking the Giants defensive game a littler prematurely.

Once the Giants get players and continuity back they'll likely improve that, and if good enough their team d will hold up in finals.

Oh and there's the Buckley and Taylor thing missing as well, might have had an impact in their defensive game.

What were your expectations up to this point?

0-4,1-3, 2-2, 3-1 or 4-4

I would have thought 2-2 or 3-1.

Pussies rd 1 Freo at home, bye, Adelaide at home. Talk about a soft run. Gimmie games at rural Gee-long.
