No you likely have an opinion on Harley that makes it difficult for you to acknowledge what's happening.

That's normal, I have players who I have to remind myself to judge them fairly because I have a mindset towards them.

But it is happening, even Hinkley noticing in the box today and plenty of opposition fans who can see it as well.

No, I have an opinion on him that isn’t contingent on assuming everything is a conspiracy.

I believe he’s umpired based on what he does, the application of the rules, and a couple of other factors that owe nothing at all to the AFL allegedly being ‘salty.’

Players who play with extra aggression and swagger will often draw the ire of the officials not through any conscious effort on the officials’ part but because everything they do is more noticeable. They hit harder, they are lippier, they are more physical, when they hit a player around the shoulder the tackle doesn’t just bounce off the shoulder: it sticks, and often goes straight up and collects the opponent. When they deck an opponent, they don’t just drag them down - they’re strong enough to sling them down; they get pinned for it. They antagonise - so like today, they do things like give away differential free kicks or 50s. It’s also what often earns them extra free kicks. As I said - he already gets 2 per game. In large part I would imagine due to how eye catching his style is, how aggressive he is and the level of pressure he brings.

Not due to the AFL being ‘salty’ that - wait for it everyone - a WA team has a player in it.

I've never said the word salty.

This is all good reasoning from you but ultimately falls to acknowledge the reality that he is umpired harsher than other players in the league.

The reasons for that may be multifaceted but the reality is clear and shouldn't be ignored.

Enjoy the win, watch him closely next game and you'll come to the same conclusion as the rest of us.

Cheers

The point is they miss a lot of frees he should be getting, and pay the odd one extra against him.

If Nick Daicos got the treatment Harley gets, there would be every single vic media person screaming about it and an AFL inquiry with the umps responsible stood down

This is true. But Harley is umpired above these levels.

Toby Greene or Butters is who you’re talking about. They don’t get pinged for half the things Harley does.

the vfl might as well admit they cheat Harley

its not like they are kidding anyone
