To anyone who went, How did it feel in terms of seeing over the ground compared to AAMI? It's always been a turn off for me going to games in the fact that 60% of the game I don't know what's going on (although I finally got glasses).

That was the main thing I noticed. I can imagine it's probably even better in the southern and eastern stands, but you really did feel on top of the ground in the top tier of the Western Stand.

Idiot me forgot to put the charged camera battery back into my camera this morning, but it looks like those iPhone photos of mine turned out OK.

Probably won't get to the rest of this match (homework sucks), but looking forward to the next home game on the 22nd. Hopefully I'll be more prepared with my camera then :D

I went down on my lunch break and the ground level viewing is so much better. You can see the whole ground. Less screen watching. I tell you what, it's about 10x better than AAMI as a spectacle. It will be loved.

The big screen in the western/southern section really encloses the stadium well, and reduces the gap quite a lot IMO.

Once the other screen goes into the Eastern/Southern section, I think we'll get a much better idea of the gap that'll be between the two stands when it's finally completed. It's really hard to read at the moment, especially with the bottom level meant to be connected with the Southern Stand.

Also, on my photos you can see the shade prediction on the virtual venue site is way off.

adelaide oval southern stand november 13.jpg

Here in this photo, taken at 1:47pm, shows the shade only misses slight edges of the top and middle tier.

In Virtual Venue, they have the shade only covering a tiny portion of the middle of the 2nd tier, and none of the bottom tier.

Are you accounting for the fact the sun is further north in winter so there will be less shade in the southern stand than in summer?

No comparison. It doesn't have the "Open Bowl" feel of AAMI, but more of a coliseum feel of the MCG. The pics in this thread don't really give a true indication of the actual size of the southern and eastern stands and just how close to the play the spectators will feel. Other than a couple of seats in the nosebleed rows where the stanchions cut off the views of about a 1/4 of the ground (maybe a total of 50 or 60 seats) you will have no dramas seeing ALL the action. Anyone who has seats in the front couple of rows of the top decks will have the prime viewing experience

NO-one will miss AAMI after going to Adelaide Oval

Sounds good, really good, I am glad they captured that coliseum feel even though it had to remain open. It's the best part of just sitting inside the MCG. Hopefully there is an intimidating feel for opposition supporters down in the open end and then looking up at 3 big packed stands. I imagine a wall of sound coming at them and drowning them out.

Also wasn't concerned about the top deck being anything like the Northern stand at AAMI, have sat last row of the top tier at Etihad once and you just feel like your on top of the game looking down, rather than some distance back from it. If its anything like that people who think they have been moved to worse seats due to have to fitting a tier and a half of people into 3 main levels will be pleasantly surprised.

For anyone wanting to see some video footage of the oval yesterday, enjoy haha

Cannot believe that the Paeer cheer squad would carry out such a disrespectful act. This is so cringe-worthy, and down right rude. I actually feel sorry for the Port fans out there who do not endorse this, because this makes the whole supporter base look like rude and arrogant flogs. I don't follow the Redbacks, (and neither do they obviously) but there's that level of respect that all people need to show towards any level of sport, but they threw all of that out of the window. I hope that "cheer" squad get what's coming to them. /rant_over

P.S Noticed in the interview with one of the flogs that it says underneath her name "life long PAFC supporter". I'm pretty sure she looks like she was born before 1997. How can she be life long?

P.P.S: hdecure - Cheers for those photos mate. Looking very impressive!

When this idea was first floated I was totally against the re-development and the move.

I spent about 4 hours at the Adelaide Oval today and was totally blown away by it. :thumbsu:

It is going to be an outstanding facility for watching footy in relative comfort. I tried watching the cricket from all 4 levels, and seriously, it doesn't matter what level you watch from, you get an outstanding view. Because of the much steeper seating at Adelaide Oval, you feel that you are far closer to what's going on.

Toilets are in abundance compared to AAMI, but they only had a couple of food outlets operating today to cater for those stupid enough to pay their ridiculously dear prices (I did because I ended up sooooo fkg hungry).

I never was a lover of the horseshoe shape of the stands, but while I would prefer to see the Southern stand replicated at the Northern end, I admit that they have managed to merge the past with the present well at that end. I still wonder what effect this lack of stands at the Northern end will experience from strong Northerly winds. AAMI's large Northern stand has been a great help in diminishing the effect of wind in a game, but obviously that no longer applies. We'll see.

Apart from that, I think that those in charge have come up with an outstanding stadium which people will enjoy going to and watching live footy. Roll on season 2014. :) :thumbsu:
