It's all about consistency, if you pay a free to one team then you need to pay a free to the other team for the exact same thing.

This is the reason why I've gone from watching 6 or 7 games a week to ours only.

Gets a bad wrap IMO. Done a lot for the game

Umpires are going to **** up it's just what happens, but what gets fans raging is the interpretations of a rule for one team and not the other,
example the protected area rule.

In round 1 plenty of times blues were encroaching the protected area and the umpires ignored it or told them to move away, tigers encroached and blues players are getting police escorts to the goalsquare.

It's all about consistency, if you pay a free to one team then you need to pay a free to the other team for the exact same thing.

Yeah it's extremely annoying, but at the same time they're purely just random, natural events.

It's like if you flip a coin 10 times in a row and you get 8 heads... you can be annoyed at bad luck, but there's no point being angry at the coin!

I have to admit - I get really angry at the coin.

That's why I have to constantly remind myself it's normal and to accept variation and randomness as one part of the game that slightly influences results outside anyone's control - for both teams.

Luckily for Richmond we're not just a 3-point better team that relies on a bit of umpiring luck. In finals, we become an 8-goal better team than everyone else, which completely removes the unavoidable element of bad luck!
