Okay we are all painfully aware of the current websites for the AFL and all 16 clubs, how painful they are to use, how they are all the same and how the AFL to bending over and taking it from Telstra.

Many other major sporting competitions dont operate like that ( take the EPL for example) and have their own indivdual websites suited best to promoting/information on the club/organisation.

Now Im unsure the finer points of the current deal with Telstra and how long until it expires (hope its soon) but hope in the near future clubs can resort back to their own unique websites and not the rubbish we as supporters have to deal with now.

Thoughts? Discuss

Cheers

essendonfc.com.au is run by Essendon themselves, probably with help from sponsor 3 and its the best site of the 16 clubs. The AFL get Telstra to run bombersfc.com.au and it is as crappy as the other 15.

Telstra paid $60mil for the internet rights for the same period as the current TV rights ie 2007-11, so we are probably stuck with them until end of 2011

Not saying they can't improve it but I actually think it's an improvement from the old site and I am actually enjoying it.

What is a bad is the delay in them launching AFL Dream Team. 1 week to go and 120,000 people will be spending hours on the site everyday till bounce down and that's if it gets launched tomorrow. Surely that will cause some drama.

I think the sites are appalling. I'd be embarrassed if I were the AFC. The fact that they don't cater for Mac users for the AFL yet do for the NRL speaks volumes!

I could create a better website than that, and I know VERY LITTLE about that sort of stuff. I think I might send an email off to Triggy.

A few of points.

Buy a PC or use a real browser and say goodbye to those incompatibilities :p

If you know very little about this stuff then you could not do any better. ;)

I think Triggy might have more important things on his plate than a MAC's users concern on compatibility. Anyway the club is very aware of the website's issues.

The sites would be ok...

If they didn't take 5 minutes to load and weren't splashed with all that java junk. I mean why? They aren't actually doing anything that special to need to load all that crap...

Thats my main problem also and their is nothing unique about the site either, just a clone of the AFL site:thumbsdown:

I don't even bother to go on the AFL site at home because we have shit phone lines so can only get 28k dial up so the wonderful broadband content (and massive adverts) on afl.com.au takes about 20mins to load. So I'm being doubly screwed over by Telstra. Sol Trujillo for Baghdad!

I wasn't going to discuss the MAC issues, I have changed browser and can now officially wait an eternity for the site to load..... and finally see that it is crap for myself.

MAC pisses all over PC and I'd rather eat glass than swap, thanks very much anyways. ;)

I am sure Triggy IS very busy, however he is never too busy to hear from a Crows supporter.

Oh and I created a website in three hours using MAC technology and it's pretty good for a beginner. In fact, it's better than some sites Ive seen that people have paid good money for. In fact, it's better than the AFL site. Seriously, that wouldn't be very hard! :p

A few points. Or just one actually, do your research before you go on a rant with no substance or creditability.

Every professional sporting organisation in the world that has a web site opens straight away no matter what system anyone uses, that is professionalism. Even
ones in Australia.

Now here is the interesting bit. The NRL in Australia is also hosted by Bigpond but it loads straight away, no fuss, and I can access every piece of it.

This then comes back to the AFL and what their requirements were when the site(s) are being programmed. The AFC site is a new one, whereas clubs like the North Melbourne or Essendon sites are the older version and they load straight away.

This is ridiculous for a so called professional organisation where they can't get something as simple as making sure visitors to their initial entry point can view it suitably.

And this rubbish of % of PCs' against Mac users is a nonsense.
Why shouldn't people buy something where they are less likely to get attacked by viruses or the like without spending a fortune?

Geez firstly take a chill pill. Also you just made a few points so you should really check what you write and check what I have written before you go off ranting like a chicken with it's head cut off.;)

I never said it was perfect. All I said is that it's an improvement. Remember to take into account it is new and will improve. I agree, they should use the NRL site as a starting point it and they should get rid of all the jave/flash crap.

In regards to the MAC attack. Did you miss the :p. Pretty sure it tells you that I am shit stiring. I am very aware as to the benifits of MAC's vs PC's and was just address'ing it would most likely be the browsers lack of support which has been clearly fixed now.

Also, PC's are for the masses hence why they are targeted from hackers and nasty virus's. It's probs MAC users doing it.:p I have never got a virus becasue I use the right anti-virus gear. Those that get them only have themselves to blame. Why would I by a PC over a MAC well, the only reason is I am a gamer so I have no choice in OS really and the only difference between a MAC vs PC these days is the OS and the cases so not sure what you are on about with cost and choice. It comes back to incompatibilies and support.

And finally the problem with the website really comes down to the fact Telstra have control of it and everything they have control of is a peice of shit. ;)

Geez this AFC website is p***ing me off, every time I go to refresh it, close it or change pages it just freezes explorer, they just try to fit too much multimedia crap that doesn't work half the time on one page, keep it simple for gods sake.
