SKY Television New Zealand will also broadcast AFL matches during the premiership season; one AFL premiership match per week on delay, one AFL finals match per week on delay, the Grand Final live and both ANZAC Day matches live. Is that correct? Every game on NZ FTA? That makes no sense!

straight from their website.

What is it costing the AFL?

Theres no sign or reference of the league paying for this coverage. Sommet is a FTA sports channel looking for content in a land where Union and League are almost Sky exclusive (although league are now getting a game or two on Maori TV)

It's great news for the sport in NZ.

Look at what FTA coverage has done for the rise in popularity of the NFL in Australia.

Hope that AFL gets a similar effect.

How does NZ get better FTA coverage than Oz?

AFL logic
Don't know, but Sommet Sports seem to be looking for significant differentiation from other sports coverage on offer over there and must have a lot of faith that AFL can deliver a decent niche market.

Wow. How much is the deal worth?

Unfortunately this station shut down yesterday.

New Zealand's only free sports channel has folded after 18 months on air and stopped broadcasting at midday.

Sommet Sports says it had the vision of 'Free Sports for Kiwis' but said funding it thought would be available never materialised.

no im pretty sure he wanted to know the worth of the deal. No one has every produced a shred of actual evidence to suggest the AFL pays for coverage.
The amount of money exchanged would have been about what most people have jiggling around in their back pockets.

Again. Evidence please. You may well be right, but reality is no one has any idea because those figures are never released.
Do you really need evidence Wookie? Doesn't your own intuition tell you that a minimal amount of money would be paid, if it's by the AFL or the television network, to screen AFL games in New Zealand? You see a lot of guys on BF stubbornly plead for evidence to refute their position, but it just makes them look silly.

Yes I need evidence. Anyone can make up unsubstantiated rumours.
