Will be pretty roapable if the Eagles bend over and accept this. Massive disadvantage given the injury list and limping into the bye week. Several players in rehab have the game after the bye as a return date.

The season is looking over as finals go but its a dead set joke pandering and disadvantaging yourself to help Richmond avoiding a 2nd flight over. Tigers can go home, have a week off with family and the comp continues as it should. Eagles travel every 2nd week more than most so flying twice in two weeks isnt too much to ask someone else to do as well is it?

Plenty of Eagles and Tigers fans would have planned other activities over the scheduled bye weekend and back the following to attend the game as originally scheduled.

If they don't move the bye, the game gets played in Sydney. Those are the 2 options.

The players shouldn't have to hub again.
Neutral venue. Agreed.

Its the fairest outcome. We lost our home ground advantage last week so its only fair. Swings and roundabouts.

All teams should hub in one state if this keeps going. Tasmania with two venues would work. Plus Tasmania is the most disadvantaged afl state and are owed a bit of karma.

This. Richmond want to get back with our fixture delayed to later in the season. AFL being asked to re jig fixtures with the Non vic teams playing each other post bye to buy some more time
A good solution, but this will cause the same issue the OP is crying about - certain clubs will have to play certain clubs earlier/later than they were planning for.

Delaying a bye for one week is seriously not a big deal. The main issue with having the bye next week is that there is no guarantee the Richmond players will be allowed back into Perth from Melbourne without having to quarantine for a lengthy period of time. This fixture is not happening in Perth if that occurs.

The other alternative is to tell the Richmond players to have their bye in Perth or somewhere out of Melbourne. It is much more reasonable telling West Coast to play this fixture earlier if Richmond’s up for it than telling Richmond to stay interstate over the bye and then have to play West Coast in Perth the week after.

Victorian teams are sacrificing home games, living interstate for the second year in a row.

West Coast are being asked to have a holiday a week later. It is an extremely fair and reasonable request, and if not for injuries I don't think it would evem be a talking point.
Good point. Clubs have a greater responsibility to the game beyond their own four walls.

To argue otherwise comes across as very insular.

Tigers players flying home to Melbourne then back into WA seems like an unnecessary risk with what’s going on over there. If moving the game forward by four days avoids that, then fine. It’ll stuff up some people’s plans but this is Covid times, that happens.

But that makes sense given WA's border restrictions and quarantine rules. The AFL and clubs would prioritise continuing the season over everything else.
Having the game next week ensures that the game will go ahead. Otherwise, we may end up in a situation where West Coast need to host Richmond in Sydney.

AFL is considering asking and looking at options not telling.
The AFL season is a long haul and the weeks break is important regards the professionalism of a club with injury recoveries and medical advise and team planning .
Also puting the weeks break back a week would disrupt the Eagles players and staffs plans as much as it would Richmonds if they have to stay in Perth a week more.Things are already booked and organised.

Could just play as scheduled and Richmond stay in Perth an extra week. Essendon managed to.

It's Perth, not Mordor.

I assume there’s some contractual CBA reason why Richmond players need to spend their bye at home. Or at least have that as an option.

A quarter of our team are parents, and left their wives on less than 12 hours notice for 23 days, just so the West coast players don't have to ring and change the weekend of their bye plans. Seriously?

The issue is that the Eagles remaining home games are all against Melbourne based sides, so it's impossible to move a game forward whilst maintaining the home advantage and NOT being in the same issue of bringing in a Melbourne based team.

The logical thing to do is to move the game forward to round 13 for Sunday. Richmond only stay a week rather than 10 days and fixture isn't that compromised.

Eagles aren't the only team with injured players due to return post the bye with Richmond expecting Lambert and Astbury to return to play WCE if the original fixture stands. So the game gets moved forward 4 days the the final game of round 13 on the Sunday, probably means a few more fans can attend given it's a Sunday rather than the Thursday. Bonus for both teams is those players pushing to be ready for the original fixture will then get an extra 10 days to be 100% right to go for the run to the finals.

What's interesting in the OP though is that their only concern is how it impacts their side, never mind that Richmond will have been on the road for a month if the game remains in the original slot having already lost a home game as well as venturing to Perth this week to help ensure the season continues without interruption.

Cant see why not. Eagles got the rub of the green a relative dream run of home games that most other clubs didnt get in 2020. Richmond conversely played the most games away from its home ground. Swings and roundabouts.

Its not anybody elses fault that Eagles have injuries. Teams like Richmond and Stkilda have been decimated by injuries this year but we arent complaining about having to play home games in Western Sydney.

Unless the Eagles are overly precious and sensitive.....

Yeah, it's completely unfair that West Coast got an unprecedented 6 games in their home state in a row whilst Richmond were forced to hub away from home, as opposed to Richmond's 4 games in their home state in a row while West Coast were forced to hub away from home.

But yeah, 6 games in a row in your home state is pretty cushy. Richmond haven't had that privilege since *checks notes* 2019. (Which was 7. All at your home ground).

I couldn't care less about moving this game (except for from a supercoach perspective), it probably does make sense to move it if both teams are happy, but *, spare me this woe is me Victorian nonsense for the second year in a row after every other instance of unfairness is weighted to be in the big Vic club's favour.
