I will give this its own thread. AFL have asked WAFC to commit 65 mill to the AFL over the next 3 years in return for better revenue sharing conditions going forward. It is effectively expected to be loan to the competition which will be paid back over a 15 year period thereafter via improved profit share. The AFL cannot commit to any more loans and due to higher then expected losses they are about 60-80 mill short. WAFC has 90 mill in money in the bank + investments. About 70 mill of that is entirely from the West Coast Eagles.

Nisbett is still negotiating with the AFL and so far has only briefly touched the subject on the radio. He expects the Eagles to have to commit around 50-60 mill however as a minimum from Eagles alone.

The game is officially on its knees it seems.

Tell em they are dreaming
Already paid their dues and it’s time others stood up
Its a loan and not free money though.

From the sounds of it, 1 more year without crowds will pretty much be the death of the sport without this style of intervention

We will give it as we have no choice. Negotiation is what and how we will be compensated

No one willing to write about it since it’s very very far from official. It’s negotiations at present. but if you go through Trevor Nisbetts last 3 ABC grandstand interviews he dances around the subject and mentions it in relation to AFL wanting us to pay a luxury tax to keep our current staff on etc

ABC asked Gil on 28 times this year to discuss and he won’t come on either

Dont take this as a personal criticism but you've based this on a couple of grandstand interviews?
Did the interviewer have any idea of the legal status of the Eagles, of the WAFC?

When Covid hit there were some at the AFL who believed the money in the Eagles bank account was a phone call away. It wasnt, this sounds like another poorly researched question, who were the dills running the questions?

I highly doubt this

The AFL financial Armageddon didn't end up being as bad as first thought. List sizes are only looking at being reduced by 4 and there is going to be 6-8 clubs that won't require any further assistance than they normally receive from the league

Plus didn't the AFL already get $500m credit?

considering that the eagles also paid for their own new facilities or a huge percentage of at least

what is it that the WAFC are saving for because if it’s a rainy day then it’s pouring at a regional level
Its for more things then grassroots football. A huge issue with grassroots is AFL cuttin g funding when GWS came on. WAFC didn’t replace the lost money more out of not wanting to change budgets over the 5 year period they set it out over

AFL expected loss is about 20 mill more then what they first thought when they took the loan out.

They can’t take out any more loans. 500 mill is it. From that 500 mill, they are 20 mill short already. They need it back

so you are saying they are looking at a $520m loss for this year?

I highly ******* doubt that it would be that big

i suppose they should of thought more about that 60mil they’ve spent in qld and the 400 they sent up more than 8 weeks out from the finals
Any other business would of been declared bankrupt
I’ve got no time for an organisation that attempts to equalise while interfering at every level of the game
