Interesting that Nisbett said a few weeks ago the Eagles couldn't/wouldn't pay the WAFL $200K needed to licence their stand alone WCE WAFL (reserves) team for 2021

Will the Eagles go into a host club situation?

Maybe, Perth?

No, there is an in principle agreement that West Coast will have a WAFL team in 2021.

It is the dollars that are being negotiated between West Coast, The WAFC and the WAFL board of directors (i.e. the presidents of all the other WAFL clubs).

Every business has sought fee relief from landlords and governments due to covid.

When everyone is making money, rents and licence fees are justified and the money is there to pay it. Not so on 2020 so everyone shares the pain.

I would give an ambitious club such as West Perth a better chance of getting a gig and being financially successful in a new competition from the current AFL bailout franchises such as GC, GWS, Melbourne, St Kilda and North.

Perth does need an AFL club to be based North of the Swan river.

So why should the supporters of the 10 Victorian clubs have to carry the additional financial cost of Foxtel subscriptions to watch their team on a weekly basis?

Supporters of the 8 'interstate' teams can watch their team weekly without Foxtel-- but a supporter of a Victorian team may only see their side 5-6 times a year without Foxtel. This leads to a situation in Victoria where some supporters choose to have a Foxtel subscription rather than a club membership (regional supporters, older supporters, etc.) because having both is cost prohibitive.

We don't have public access to this data-- but I've said this repetitively over the past few years on BF, I suspect that the overwhelming majority of Foxtel subscribers who subscribe to primarily watch AFL come from Victoria.

Therefore wouldn't it be a massive advantage to be a sponsor of an interstate side that gets approx. 100k viewers on FTA every week (in its home state) in addition to the Foxtel viewership compared to sponsoring St. Kilda, North Melbourne or the Western Bulldogs?

Channel 7 wouldn't be interested in this time slot & I don't know if any other FTA broadcasters would be interested in airing a FTA broadcast on Primetime on a Sunday night.

For example last Sunday--- Channel 7 got 1.1mil viewers at 6pm for 7 News and then 758,000 viewers between 7:30pm-9pm for The Full Monty. How many AFL games would rate over 750k on a Sunday evening?

While I agree with you that giving the Eagles & Freo a 'time slot' they can make their own-- I think the emphasis should remain focusing on entertaining the WA audience rather than a national audience.

At the end of the day the AFL is about making money & the TV rights deals are what keeps the lights on above ticket sales, etc.
There are also disadvantages with these distribution models, obviously Foxtel & 7 media leverage the content to push their advertising revenue. They pay large amounts because they profit financially, but also exploit the game to enhance their organisations credibility. Big crowd blockbusters give them exposure to sell additional services to other sports. The AFL could start their own Media platform, albeit at an under 19 level until 5g platforms are widely available. This model could include an advertising & distribution model similar to https://twit.tv This way they can choose advertisers that align with their values or even leverage sponsorship to provide their own services. Ultimately controlling the content & distribution give the creator flexibility to value add within their own culture. The AFL could start by controlling their content production & distribution via streaming services. It'd be brave but, if they stay down the current model, Foxtel & co will feed off this advantage whilst also enhancing the opportunity for other sports thus changing the AFL identity . There's a reason Billionaires get in bed with popular sports. The equation for premium content is profit margins per viewer, so why not invest the money on their own infrastructure? You tube style green screen vlogers are getting very proficient with top end iPhones & a good lens for B - Roll. Most people wouldn't care if the footage was 720p if the content was creative, relatable & social. Subscriptions would go through the roof. Anything would be better than the recent draft fiasco. They could bring in different Chanels.
I know this is a pipe dream, but the technology is there and it would give the AFL the added opportunity to expose country football by bundling its investments in grass roots football with services, logistics & infrastructure. Makes sense that the next executive must have experience in negotiating with interstate commissions , but also proficient in Media & be technologically savvy.

No. All up the license and associated fees are 800K.

The reason the eagles won't pay the fees is because the AFL are ******* us over and trying to have those fees included in the football department soft cap thus allowing us hundreds of thousands of dollars less in the soft cap than anyone else.

Are the Victorian and SA teams VFL and SANFL fees included in their cap?

Dont take this as a personal criticism but you've based this on a couple of grandstand interviews?
Did the interviewer have any idea of the legal status of the Eagles, of the WAFC?

When Covid hit there were some at the AFL who believed the money in the Eagles bank account was a phone call away. It wasnt, this sounds like another poorly researched question, who were the dills running the questions?
Id be believing what GoEaglesGoSGIO weites mate is a respected poster with obvious contacts
