Scandal AFL auditing third party payments from Geelong

Would it come as any surprise that buying a property in Grovedale or Winchelsea is going to provide significantly better value to one in Port Melbourne or Kew??

Ie might look like getting more but not actually.
You reckon Bailey Smith bought a house in Grovedale?

Dangerfield bought that property in 2016 for $2.08 million, looking like this, having been last sold for $26,000 in 1983.

Then put out a planning permit to build a $1.2 million house on it. This is all public information.

Buddy's massive contract at Sydney at over $1m per year has been well-documented. Meanwhile every single year we get fed crap that the likes of Dangerfield, Hawkins, Selwood, etc were taking massive pay cuts for "the love of the club."

Thank goodness for ctrl+c & ctrl+v.
Adelaide have effectively short-circuited this situation by informing Geelong - and Dangerfield - that it would have matched Dangerfield's contract offer of an estimated $5 million over six years.
And we don't reckon he could afford a $2M property after eight years in Adelaide prior to this? Come on.

Hilarious how quick a simple bit of research completely foils their little narratives in seconds.

It's just acting deliberately obtuse for the sake of it I think. Clubs at the upper end of the ladder have always been able to pay a little less for players compared to the cellar dwellers, just look at the multitude of players North have given an open cheque book to who have turned them down to stay at their original clubs for a financial loss. Callaghan just turned down a $17M deal at St. Kilda for a $4M deal at GWS. Dangerfield on the open market in 2015 probably could've got offers of up to $1M, but how often do we see someone simply go to the highest bidder these days - very rare, let alone someone who was hell bent on returning to Moggs Creek.

Playing for a little less than market value doesn't = playing for food stamps, these are all very wealthy people. Everyone knows it, some just let their envy of that one club they hate more than anything else blind them to reason.

Yeah a quick bit of research.

Geelong offered a contract to a restricted free agent in Patrick Dangerfield. Said offer would've been matched by the Adelaide Crows. A club, that has had several players walk out on the club seeking better deals because they're notorious for under paying players in their strict payment system.

Yet they were willing to match Dangerfield's contract.

And apparently he has had no living expenses during his low paid time in Adelaide so there's no problem with him buying an expensive property almost immediately after being traded to Geelong. His time in Adelaide did not at all include purchasing and completely paying off the mortage for a beachside property... It was all spent saving up for his dream surf coast home hey?

Note his selling his Adelaide home did not have him flush with funds for his Geelong purchase, as that sale didn't occur until a year later...

But enough $$$ to buy into a pub in 2014. We could insinuate that someone who is supposedly as poor as Dangerfield was being able to afford a venture like this sounds a little dodgy, but no one really cares about whatever under the table dealings are going on in SA given both football clubs constantly find new ways to screw the pooch.

Did someone say $2 pubs?

Crows stars Taylor Walker, Patrick Dangerfield and Rory Sloane are new co-owners of The Alma Hotel

IN THE strongest sign yet they’ve committed their future to Adelaide, Crows stars Patrick Dangerfield, Taylor Walker and Rory Sloane have bought into The Alma Hotel in Norwood.

The high-profile trio replace former Crows champ Simon Goodwin and join new Adelaide board member Mark Ricciuto as part owners of the pub, which has recently undergone an extensive renovation.

Rory says he always had his eye on owning a business but was waiting for the right opportunity to present itself.

“Roo caught up with myself, Tex and Danger and pitched it to us...it’s going to be awesome to learn from Roo about business and to have something to do outside of football,” Rory says.

“The renovations have come up amazingly, we’re all that excited about it. There’s a new feel to it. It feels like our pub and it’s going to be great to see it grow. I reckon Tex will be sleeping there during the off-season.”

Sure- but regardless of the reason, they actually did. No need really to be bitter and twisted.

That was a superb post, STP. Thank you for your service.

Dillon doing a bit of damage control today but did mention as long as the terms of a third party sponsorship weren't changed around the time of recruitment then it would be fine to remain outside of the salary cap. Given Smiths Cotton On deal was unfavourable (his own fault) for him ahead of the trade, do we think it's plausible that the contract was changed again?

While I’m here, does anyone have an iPhone fix for the translation of numbers to icons (see the monstrosity above)?

At some stage BF chiefs will actually spend some money and push through a platform update which is normally what happens anywhere else when a bug is presented and rectified by the vendor[emoji849]

There's no way the AFL have the appetite for another cartlton or essendon saga.

They'll just allow the cats to rework the contracts and make it all official and smooth it over the next handful of years.

They've been doing what ever they want for years now.

They're doing it again.

Currently evicting the peasants who owned the farm we're giving him.

They complained about being homeless, but being the charitable folk we are we gave them a tent and a map with local parks circled. Community club are the cats.

Welcome Jamarra.

Lions have been into him for months.
Yeah that’s not a story.
They’ve only also got to pay Neale, McCluggage, Dunley, Zorko, Rayner and Andrews the big bucks.

Geelong having 1 of the top 80 most expensive players last year are the club really struggling to pay players. We have Smith now, guess that’s broken the bank.

I wonder if anyone has cottened on to AFL teams bringing in families, such as AFLW players to keep players at the club. Both from a financial AND family connection perspective.
What would be the problem with that?

The only potential conflict is when the relative has no business being on an afl list. Even then, who cares? If the clubs want to waste a valuable list spot on a spud, go for it.
