Seems odd that Dangerfield would step down as AFLPA during a season...
Is he preempting some difficult questions ahead perhaps?
He isn’t the list or football manager, nor CEO. So I’m not sure what role he would play in overpaying or out of cap deals to players.Seems odd that Dangerfield would step down as AFLPA during a season...

Colour me shockedNot going to trawl the thread to see if this has been canvassed.
Apparently the whole thing started with, of all people, Clayton Oliver.
Oliver met with a Geelong player at his regional property and that player hinted he was under no obligation to pay back his loan for it.
Oliver relayed this to someone at Melbourne after the trade fell through. Melbourne then approached GWS and told them “we almost got stiffed here and we think you got stiffed with Cameron”.
They also alerted the Dogs re Smith.
All three clubs, in a touching display of unity, reached out to the AFL to share their joint concern. Thus the audit.
LolOh yeh' that sounds legit![]()

The way it was put to me is that Oliver (a noted rocket scientist) didn’t fully get the gravity of what he was telling Melbourne and just blurted it out. There's been a lot of Geelong players who've been delisted and who would have been keen to go on. A lot of players targeted by Geelong over the years who weren't ultimately landed. A lot of people with an axe to grind over many years.
If it's played out as you've described, it'd be surprising if it ended up being Oliver to blow the lid off - what must have been - an open secret to anyone who's had anything to do with Geelong over the past decade.
I'd be amazed if it went beyond the grey area of third party endorsement deals, something that I'm not really sure how you can stop with the AFL's set-up and that I'm sure all clubs do (or try to) to some extent. If it's played out the way you've described (and, importantly, if it's actually true), it's blatant cheating.
I hope you have a good lawyerNot going to trawl the thread to see if this has been canvassed.

I say we keep the innuendo flowing, but it doesn't sound legit to me - they're being audited rather than investigated. If we are being honest, it kinda does.
The net is closing.
Brisbane you say? As in this Brisbane?Coming from a Brisbane Lions supporter, your opinion means literally nothing on this particular topic.
And so are Port.I say we keep the innuendo flowing, but it doesn't sound legit to me - they're being audited rather than investigated.

Isn't that basically how Carlton got caught?Yeah... so Oliver, a drug and gambling addict, is the one who blew the lid on our secret deals. No other player Geelong has gone after has blown their horn and alerted anyone until now.
Sure.
He's a lame troll not worth listening to. Bay 13 standard contributions. It's sad really.Coming from a Brisbane Lions supporter, your opinion means literally nothing on this particular topic.
You actually summarise my position, personally. I think I'm more touchy because it has gained so much traction.geelong fans are soooo touchy.
it's actually quite believable.
geelong haven't even hidden utilizing their sponsors to get their player remunerated
- smith with cotton on
- scott with morris finance
- selwood with some sort of dodgy loan agreement
you seriously don't think they'd be utilizing Simonds for housing deals for players? spare me.
you're pushing the envelope, but not breaking the rules, there's an audit, you'll pass it. not sure why you're all so sensitive about it.
all scandals get broken by a thick football player running their mouth - james hird was texting stephen dank about jabs ffs.
Ding ding ding, we have a winner! The club has done so much right to get up from its knees in '99, it's almost as if the smaller clubs resent us no long schlepping it with them and the stronger clubs resent us getting in their way.
