More to than likely other teams are into it aswell,

But other teams also don’t roll out the “ our players play for less for the good of the club “ tripe year in year out
See that's the part that has fans of every other club saying hey that sounds sus, because absolutely no one is leaving a million dollars on the table unless they know they can recoup it in some other fashion.

Evidence A - Crows/Tippett:

'The charges stemmed from the contract that Tippett signed with Adelaide in 2009, which made him the Crows' highest-paid player.

Adelaide allegedly agreed to trade him to a club of his choice for a second-round draft pick - a massively lopsided arrangement - when the contract finished at the end of 2012.

The Crows allegedly made a further payment of up to $200,000 to Tippett outside the salary cap.'

Evidence B - Geelong third party deals:

“We’re not saying that there was any cheating, that there was any attempt to cheat the salary cap,” Wilson said.

"The AFL have told Geelong and other clubs, this is that there’s been a loosening of management issues at many clubs, and a warning will be given to all clubs with a crackdown on third party payments."

One of these things is not like the other....
The $200K was over 4 years so the $50K was "stupidly" within our salary cap and as if we were going to trade him for a 2nd rounder and not get caught lol. It was a gentlemen's agreement which clubs make with managers and never follow through anyway but we had it in an email.

If Geelong get fined, then there's a dozen other clubs who should be fined too. Do you think Geelong is the only club that have these "cultural" and "advisory" third party payments. There's less than a handful of clubs that are completely clean when it comes to this stuff.

Sheer corruption worse then asada. Tainted culture.

If afl did some digging they could likely find Geelong being funded by evil entities. Wouldn't be surprised if it's middle east

Culturally they are Al Nassr. What a disgrace the Manchester City cats are. Or Al nassr cats

We have Cotton On with billions bro, if you’re gonna make shit up at least use Ford or Cotton On.
The jokes are literally right there….jesus even the insults are just blatantly bad. 3/10

other clubs have been fined for similar breaches, AFAIK Brisbane, Hawks and Dogs. The whole thing is a nothingburger but the pitchfork brigades hear their goddess Caro speak and can't help but believe every sloppy word out of her mouth

Common sense prevails! Brisbane, Dogs, Tigers and Saints all done in recent years for similar fines.

I'm saying "right now" there's a dozen clubs who do the same thing. AFAIK (and I've been following this for quite a while) only North, West Coast, Hawthorn and Gold Coast are running 100% clean.

Gold Coast don't really need to, as Lyon this week said that they're AFL's nepo-baby. North and Eagles... Well that's self explanatory. Hawthorn (surprising I know) but Mitchell doesn't want it.

I also think Laura Kane is picking on Geelong purely because their the one's that can bare the scandal more than any other club.

St Kilda is still doing it now in 2025, can you imagine his hard it would hit them if they got caught again? Melbourne, Sydney and Carlton last year would've turned up similar results if they did an audit on them.

This is just a huge problem for the AFL, created and mishandled by the administration, and it's really all their fault.

You mean to tell me, the club that has time and time again courted players with a long standing suspicion that it there were under the table deals turns out to have actually HAD discrepancies in their payments and it's all just a coincidence and all they get is a fine?

Absolutely protected by the AFL. Disgusting.
We win over all these prospective men's players by showing them the fancy new Fords our AFLW players are driving.

Much like a man, you can tell a lot about a club by how it treats its women.

Adelaide lost two years of first and second round draft picks for this exact same withing with Tippet. Let's see if the AFL treat Geelong as the same.

Geelong will prepare for the wet lettuce because AFL's to gutless to apply an appropriate penalty.

Interesting that you’ve said this on the exact day that a player from the other major code was signed for around $300k less than he was offered to stay at the club he was already established at.

Of coarse has nothing to do with the ongoing benefit of the whistle and sweeping under the carpet of scandals ( ‘ nose beers ‘ public reference the latest example )
Since Hocking started at the AFL Geelong have obtained a very favourable run in most aspects .
Let’s not forget not only have they been given inside running on incoming rules they’ve been given official assistance by the AFL to trial and had increased input rules final outcome .

So for future reference all jokes pertaining to 'Cotton On' or 'free farms' will be fact checked by yours truly. In the spirit of keeping BigFooty.com factually correct all jokes must now be limited to 'a car to a senior AFLW player that wasn’t lodged'.

Thank you Carowhine for getting to the bottom of this and clearing our impeccable name!
Wow that's more than I thought a car to an AFLW player imagine what they are gifting to the men..... Either way we will never know the AFL will sweep it under the carpet....

Well to be fair, we volunteered this as a punishment to make sure the board kept their positions. The board fought tooth and nail to keep Steven Trigg but had to accept he would face a 6 month ban.

If we would have sacked Trigg and the board resigned we would have faced a much smaller penalty, possibly a large fine.

That is the fabric of our club, we would rather destroy our football list than sack a couple of old boys.

Given that, if all that needs to happen is for a couple of people to get sacked, Geelong will ****ing sack them and pay the fine, like a proper football club would.

I don't think Geelong have ever said words to that effect. Some media figures do, of course - but I wouldn't advise living your life by the opinions of football journalists.

What Geelong have is a flatter salary cap than most. This means that when you're at the peak of your powers you won't get the monster 1.5M/7 year deal or whatever. It also means that as you age you don't see your earnings drop off as sharply - clubs who pay mega deals still have to find that money somewhere, so they won't pay as much to their fringe players.

Both Zach Tuohy and Isaac Smith are examples of players who came to Geelong in part because Geelong had a better deal for them in terms of $$$ than what Carlton/Hawthorn were offering. And of course veteran players have a chance to play on for basically as long as they can keep contributing what the coaches are asking for. It might mean you don't get that sugar hit, but it's a pretty compelling offer to pair with a successful team and the surf coast/country lifestyle (not for me but plenty seem drawn in by it).

What are you doing? You're a Hawthorn supporter sticking up for Geelong? This wont go down well with your people
