AFL Awards Season 2022

As we await the completion of the few remaining matches for Round 23, and the 2022 H&A season, it means we're approaching the start of the awards seasons

Talk in the media has already started with discussion on whom should be in the AA squad, who deserves a debut blazer and even full team predictions, such as this effort from Mitch Cleary

What are we all thinking will happen come the AFL silly season...

And will Blicavs get a much deserved AA blazer for the first time

Think we'll get 5 for the squad.
3 that make the team. Hawkins, Cameron and Blicavs.
I think a good game today and Stengle makes it. Has been good talk about him for a while and they’ll love the great story it will make.

You can tell from his selections that Mitch Cleary is based in Melbourne

Just chuck Rory Laird down back similar to how they’ve got Petracca up forward

How about they actually select players on their real position?

I reckon they'll select Stewart. I don't think he deserves it though (not that I'll be unhappy if he does make the team).
Same

He's missed 5 games, subbed off early in a 6th and I'd suggest his season has been a bit up & down at times - not the consistency we've seen from him in recent seasons; kinda like teams have worked out how to play him...

At his dominant best, no doubt he's the best attacking defender in the league, but not sure we've seen it from him enough this season to be in the final AA team - still should make the 40 man squad

I feel like if Stewart's 2022 season was replicated by a fringe AA player, I'm not sure they get over the line

All had great seasons but I doubt we will get 5 in the team.

Stewart would be in but with the games he’s missed makes it hard. Stengle is a strong chance but will probably not get in. Blicavs has had a great season and a strong contender for another best and fairest but what position would he be picked in for the AA team? Other midfielders would be ahead of him. There is no other real player like him, he could be picked as the second ruck.

Cameron and Hawkins should be certainties.

Blicavs on the bench

yeah - it was more a comment about interstate teams - freo have the best defence in the league, yet none of their players are good enough apparently.

They've had a really poor second half of the year though, a lot of the awards are bias to what players do in the second half as that's what people remember and it's headed towards finals.

So long as Hawkins is in the AA side I'll be happy. If the selectors come up with some BS excuse not to pick easily the most well-rounded tall forward in the comp I'll lose my s**t. He should be first picked IMO. Ahead of Curnow and yes, ahead of Cameron. 26 goal assists is insane for a player in his position.

He should be a walk-up start but my only worry is if Tom Lynch kicks 5+ goals tonight they might look only at the goals kicked column and pick Lynch over Hawk. Which would be ridiculous, but it's possible.

It's a shame the delivery to Hawkins today was so abysmal. Even putting aside his inaccuracy in front of goal, he still should have finished with 7+ goals.

I agree it would be a great story. I can’t see them not shoving Petracca/Bolton on one flank and not selecting both Fritsch and C.Cameron.

I can see him making it over Cameron. There’s barely anything in it stats wise.

Three players from each club were put forward for the MVP Award, which took place over a two-stage voting process. Players nominated their teammates in stage one before selecting from a competition-wide field in stage two.

The nominations from minor premiers Geelong were dominated by the key forwards, with Jeremy Cameron and Tom Hawkins joining Mark Blicavs in the list of nominations.

GEELONG CATS

MVP:
Jeremy Cameron, Mark Blicavs, Tom Hawkins

Most Courageous: Tom Atkins

Best First Year: Oliver Dempsey

Best Captain: Joel Selwood

Hate to mention his name or team, but I would have Tom Lynch over Curnow. He is the biggest KF threat to us in the comp imho, the way he clunks his marks, and kicks quite well.

AA forward line should be something like this:

Bolton Hawkins J. Cameron
C. Cameron Curnow Stengle

No resting mid. I understand it when you have a down year for small forwards, but in the context of this season, the quality has been there, so Petracca should be selected either in the midfield or on the bench.
Premiership forward line will certainly have 3 of those anyway!
