My votes is for Matty Lloyd. He would trip over a line in the pavement, if he got a free kick for it. I don't think I have ever seen any league footballer go to ground as many times as Lloyd did on Saturday night.

I keep ontelling myself the umpires will work it out eventually, but then I think, no they are just not that smart.

I wouldn't be holding out for the umps to notice. It has been 15 years and still the umpires haven't woken up to soft**** Silvagni being the greatest jumper puller the game has ever seen. Full-back of the century my arse.

Agree with everyone so far, but Lloyd would get my vote as well.

HE IS SO SOFT - He almost cried on Saturday night when Archer walked towards him.

oooh not fair miss! Essendon get the opportunity to build a bigger percentage...

oooh not fair miss! Matthew Lloyd get too many free kicks and is a diver and is soft

oooh not fair miss! Essendon play it too hard - they're mongrels and play the man too much...

What a bunch of cry baby w***ers!

Fact: Essendon is one of several teams playing at Colonial - nobody is whinging about the others.

Fact: WCE have been playing in near perfect dry weather conditions 1/2 the year for 14 years (building up that percentage) and no one's been complaining about that.

Fact: of North's first six goals on the weekend 4 were from frees and at least 2 of those were total BS.

Fact: Wayne Carey either hits someone or is involved in wrestling players almost every match but has not been suspended since 1994(?!?!?!?) much less reported until the weekend. He is the most protected species in the AFL.

Fact: media commentators across the board praised Lloyd's new toughness - even Sheedy said after the game "he's getting stronger isn't he" - there seems to be a consensus in the press that Lloyd will begin to play a roving CHF role like Carey's in the next few years on the basis of this toughness.

Fact: No body holds jumpers better than Silvani.

Dutchman,

Here are a couple of facts:

FACT: The topic here is about fall guys, nothing to do about Essendon's percentage or Colonial Stadium.

FACT: Essendon had plenty of free kicks on the forward line last Saturday night as well - they just didn't convert.

FACT: You've probably had enough of the English winter, and it is obviously getting to you to come up with so much rubbish.

FACT: You are a Bombers supporter.

FACT: Assuming you are based in London, you only get to watch the footy on the telly, or if you are here, you would go and see Essendon's matches.

FACT: Everybody knows that Channel 7's coverage is crap anyway.

FACT: Unless you go to the footy every week to watch the Kangaroos (which you don't) you would have no idea that type of crap that opposition backmen give to Wayne Carey. I'm not only talking about Carey here, I'm also talking about the Locketts / Abletts / Dunstalls etc... all teams know that if they stop these type of players, they have a good chance of winning the game. So how could you make such a stupid comment about something you know jackshit about...

FACT & REALTY CHECK: Your Matty Lloyd has plenty of potential, but let's face it, he is a cleaned face boy playing a man's game...

How can you decide between Lloyd and Wangaweed (sic) for the Biggest fall guy?????

Tough decision....
Nah, just can't split 'em

Lloyd is only an apprentice to the master of the are, I refer of course to the venerable master D.bewick ahh the vision of his falling to his knees head ready to be taken high, He and Buckenara were the best exploiters of this Ive seen. Honarble mentions to Lord Matera and Wanganeen.........

And God Silvangi HOLDSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!

Ed4 Prez.

I haven't been living in London all that long mate - 2 years - so I've seen plenty of Carey in his "ineligble for report or suspension period".

I've also already seen the tape of the Ansett GF.

I also saw North play live at the G last year round 2 (admittedly Carey wasn't playing).

Everyone is aware of how much stick key forwards get (eg: Martyn usual effort on the weekend) - funny thing though - the last classic CHF Dermott Brereton played an almost identical game to Carey - ie: very high skill mixed with physical intimidation - difference? he got reported and suspended one hell of a lot more than Big Wayne. Might have been a tiny, weeny bit more of a mongrel but... only just. (oh by the way I saw a shedload of him over the years too)

True this post is about divers - well really its about slagging off Essendon players (Bewick, Lloyd) and ex-bombers (Wanganeen). Just one in a long line of whingy topics implying the Bombers are lucky, or blessed or soft, or cheats or whatever (hence my list).

If the link wasn't obvious then I'll make an effort to spell it out a little better for you next time.

By the way the weather is just fine - nice and sunny for a March in the UK.

Regards
Dutch

Just one more fact Dutchy.....
On average Perth gets more rain annually than Melbourne (wierd but true!). Maybe the good conditions are because of our excellent home ground

[On that % issue, we have been a defensive team for the last decade, and even when playing well very rarely put teams away. So I guess it wouldn't really apply.]

Your thinly veiled slur campaign against Matthew Lloyd is just petty jealousy. To infer that Lloyd is given preferential treatment and/or is soft, are utterly false.

Yes, Lloyd does take a dive occaissonly, but so does everyone. It's a part of the game. If a player gets away with it, good luck to them.

Lloyd kicked 87 goals last year, very few were from free kicks. Most were from marks, or occured in general play. Yet according to you he's spending most of his time trying to con umpires into giving him free kicks. How could he kick 87 goals if he's always on the ground? The plain fact of the matter is Lloyd recieved fewer free kicks then were actually payed against him, by a ratio of 2:1. Clearly if he dives so much that you feel compelled to winge about it, he is not getting away with it.

As for soft. Yes, Lloyd is clean cut. And yes it is exploited for marketing purposes. Explain to me how this makes him soft? You don't kick 87 goals in a year (71 in 98, 63 in 97)if you are soft. As for crying when Archer approached him. Remember Rd.17 last year. Archer was given an absolute bath, six goals kicked on him in a half, and who was the player that kicked all those goals? MATTHEW LLOYD. Archer had to be moved, on to someone "softer" I'm presuming.

Anyone who criticises Matthew Lloyd is an idiot. At only 21 years of age he's near enough to a champion player, if he isn't one already. He will be the game's next great forward if he avoids major injuries. As a Port supporter, I'll be happy if Warren Tredrea can even approach Lloyd's ability.

As for Wanganeen - yes, he is probably the undisputed master of staging for free kicks. More fool the umpires that fall for it, but paradoxically he is also one of the most courageous players in the AFL for putting his body on the line. Unfortunately the wear and tear of that courage are beginning to catch up with him these days.

Save your bagging for cowardly stagers such as Josie Romero - the archetypal Western Mongrel.

Top call PM

We may not agree on much but we agree on everything in your last post.

Also, James2 nice starts on Lloyd's apparent bogeyman G. Archer.

Should be a good game Thursday night PM - I think that pretty close to a full fit list and with Essendon coming off the GF thumping you guys might be a real show.

Cheers
Dutchy

PS. Biggest diver I ever saw was Kevin Barlett - Bewick does not even register compared to that guy...

Longjohn,
yeah, Lloydy really cried when he saw Archer the other night, just like last year when when he kicked 6 in a half on him.

"troll troll troll your boat
gently down the stream..."

That was nice, who can we have a bit of fun with now? Pretty boy (why didn't he really play last year) Hird.

Nice to see Lloyd go down again last night, hope he doesn't miss to many games...

Lloyd, what a softc#%!

Lloyd does stage a lot but when your standing in the forward line and all you can see is Bewick running around and then falling over every 2 minutes looking for frees you are going to pick up on it. Bewick is unbelievable, most of the time I think that he is so soft that he falls over just so he doesnt have to go for the hard ball or make a tough tackle. His softness rubbed off on many players in Bomberland and only now in his twilight are new players coming in who play the man a bit, or a lot depending on who your talking about.

Pete

Wot about libber ?
Rough as guts when he's dishing it out but rolls into a ******* hedgehog ball when he's tackled. If the gets a free his legs pop out and he's off and running again.

The way the game was umpired in round one, these softc#%*s will become the superstars of Australia's game, Aussie touch ball (when you touch them they get a free). Lloyd will be the greatest superstar this game has seen if the toughness is removed from the game, Sav could almost become a player.

Even Carey got free kicks on Friday night.

Hey, Lenny,

You can always go back to the shop and get another bunch of grapes, y'know *GRIN*

anyone, absolutely anyone who says that matthew lloyd is soft oughta have a good look at the tape of the ansett cup gf - where he consistantly outplayed martyn (a player who has an average of less than two goals kicked on him per game throughout his career)

this performance alone proves his toughness, but a player who kicks 70 odd goals a year shouls never be condidered soft in anyone's book. Lloyd is an absolute class act who is tough and committed - watch him destroy every full back this year and get the ton - than we'll see who calls him soft.

also, the fact than lloyd occasionally akes a dive has been mentioned. I'm the first one to admit than he does this a bit, but think about all the great full forwards. Dunstall was a master at it. Ablett played the umpies for fools time and time again. And you only have to look at a north game to realise that nay time another player comes within 5 metres of carey he gets a free - he is the most protected species in the game by an absolte street.

cheers
