Just saw this come up this morning - may be of interest:

"Local clubs will benefit from an innovative new structure in the AFL Brisbane Juniors Under 16 competition in 2010. The old divisional system is out, replaced by the McDonald’s Premier Cup, in which the top 12 clubs in Brisbane have been invited to participate.

There will be a strong developmental focus on the new-look competition. Teams of similar ability have been drawn to play each other twice during the season, which starts on Sunday 11 April, in addition to meeting all other sides once.

A radical 10-goal rule has also been introduced to the competition, meaning no team can win by more than 60 points. The rule is designed to encourage the coaches of stronger teams to move their side around and give players experience in different positions if they are winning by a big margin, instead of trying to load up their percentage.

The new Under 16 competition will give more clubs the opportunity to participate at a high level than under the previous division system, meaning players from lower divisions won’t necessarily have to swap clubs as had been a trend in the past.

“This is one of the most exciting developments for junior football in a long, long time,” said AFL Brisbane Juniors administrator Cherie Brockwell. “We are thrilled that more clubs will have an opportunity retain good players, that player development will be nurtured, and that more young men will have the opportunity to play finals football.”

The competition will feature a top eight, with a four-long finals series similar to the AFL. The 12 clubs whose applications to join the McDonalds Premier Cup were successful are Aspley, Bribie Island, Coorparoo, Jindalee, Kenmore, Morningside, Mt Gravatt, Redland, Sandgate, Sherwood, Springwood, Wilston-Grange.

The clubs who missed a berth in the new competition will participate in their own, soon-to-be-unveiled Cup."
