But isn’t that unfair to all the fans who were prevented from attending the game because it wasn’t played at the MCG?Of course. But GWS won the right to host the game in their home state.

They won the right to host the game on their home ground. The AFL's talk of maximising attendance it utter bullshit.Of course. But GWS won the right to host the game in their home state.
Same reason you're not playing at Ballarat or Launceston. It's a small regional venue and not suitable for hosting major events such as AFL Finals.
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heardSame reason you're not playing at Ballarat or Launceston. It's a small regional venue and not suitable for hosting major events such as AFL Finals.
We've been trying to demand 11 home games for years haven't we? We've just been given the games at the MCG and not much we can do about it.Geelong needs to separate from Melbourne and play all home games in a Geelong, away games in Melb and out of Victoria. Home finals will be in a Geelong no matter the home state crap. Pies, Bombers etc will have to travel down the highway.
Issue is Geelong won’t do this. Can’t expect to demand home finals if we still play home games at MCG.
Who cares about crowd numbers if this comp is supposed to be fair.
Nice idea but the backlash wouldn’t be worth itWe've been trying to demand 11 home games for years haven't we? We've just been given the games at the MCG and not much we can do about it.
They should just boycott any home game at the MCG. Just tell the opposition that we're happy to play them but they have to meet us kardinia and if not we take the forfeit. AFL is happy to have zero integrity behind closed doors but if it's out in the open they'll respond. A team like Collingwood or Richmond or Hawthorn won't refuse to meet a side away under media scrutiny, and the rest of the comp won't stand for a powerhouse side taking 4 points without working for it.
Supply and demand. Giants Stadium didn't sell out today so why play it at a larger stadium? It's a lot different to Victoria where you'd be preventing 30-50k fans from attending.
There would be a fair few disappointed fans yes but there would also be a much stronger business case to expand capacity. A few angry fans turns into a new stand pretty quickly if they're paying cash. That's the end game hereI wish the game was played at GMHBA there would be posts a mile long from Geelong supporters that they could not get in even though being a member. As they have to give a percentage to opposition supporters
Of course. But GWS won the right to host the game in their home state.
Even the geelong footy club would not go with your reason. Why bother to be a member of the club if you got to pay cash say you miss the finals you be broke in a few years. They rely on the membership as it money up front .I like your idea about paying as you go .There would be a fair few disappointed fans yes but there would also be a much stronger business case to expand capacity. You're investing in today. For a club like Geelong our memberships are capped by seating more than anything. Don't waste time getting a couple of extra ticket sales today when you could be a 80k member club before you know itEven the geelong footy club would not go with your reason. Why bother to be a member of the club if you got to pay cash say you miss the finals you be broke in a few years. They rely on the membership as it money up front .I like your idea about paying as you go .
I just wish that the likes of Eddie McGuire/Brian Taylor would acknowledge that playing at the MCG advantaged Collingwood (and their supporters) and disadvantaged Geelong and our supporters.
If you consider that the bulk of the Geelong’s Victorian based supporters live in the greater Geelong/Bellarine area, and it’s harder to get to Melbourne on a ‘work’ night - a Friday MCG schedule is a double disadvantage.
