Continued on from the 2019 edition here...

Draw is out, and it's only March. Regional grade dissolved back into the 3s/4s comps again, Tuggeranong and Eastlake fielding teams again.

Any thoughts/tips for the year? Only early but Yass will be very strong in 4s as usual, and I reckon ANU might be the team to beat in 3s.

I dont know how Yass will go this year after finishing near the bottom last year in regional. Maybe they were effected by the grade a lot more than people knew. I would be looking at Goulburn and ADFA.

It will be interesting to see how Tuggeranong perform in the 3rd grade competition. If history is anything to go by I can see a few thumping's coming their way.

First spoon in their history. They've gained some handy players from Ainslie. Can't count out any of the good double city teams like ANU, Woden, Molonglo from doing things this year.

Southern Cats will be strong in fours. Can't imagine too many defenders from teams that can go toe-to-toe with Taylor Lee. ADFA in threes if they've still got that jet from last year.

I’d say the league would be odds on to either cancel games or abandon the season this year 🤷‍♂️

My thoughts .. Its a certainty that we will play a shortened season . I think we will start in June with each club playing each other once then a top 4 final series .I dont believe that ADFA will enter teams in any division this year though.

AFL CANBERRA 2020 SEASON DELAYED UNTIL MAY 31st 2020

A note to the AFL football community,

The health and well-being of fans, players, umpires, officials, partners, volunteers and communities has been our number one priority.

We are determined to be part of the whole of community response to slow this COVID-19 virus down – and in doing so, help the broader community and our health systems to cope.

Following a series of meetings over the last number of days involving the AFL and all State and Territory CEOs, recommendations have been made in relation to Community football.

Consistent with the decision yesterday in relation to State League football and the national and state talent programs, all AFL and AFL State association managed or operated leagues along with the NAB AFL Auskick Centres programs currently operating or set to begin, will be postponed until 31st May 2020.

The AFL is also strongly recommending that independently governed junior and senior leagues and associations postpone the commencement and/or operation of their leagues/associations until the same date.

This decision and recommendation covers AFL community matches, AFL community training sessions and face to face AFL, WAFC and SANFL education courses.
Given the current climate of uncertainty and complexity, we felt it was best for our AFL community to take decisive action now.
The recommendation was collectively agreed upon based on the nature of shared public facilities across community football clubs and the health and safety of our volunteer network.

The AFL and AFL State and Territory Associations are committed to supporting community football during this time.
We are a game, but we are not the main game.

The main game is looking after the community and that is the clear priority for everyone at the moment. For football families like all families.
It is paramount that support and engagement in community football continues during these times. It is vital players, coaches, administrators, supporters, sponsors, volunteers and kids retain close links to their local clubs, Auskick Centres and wider league network.

The AFL will continue to meet with state and territory associations in relation to community football and will continually review this decision based on the changing circumstances and advice from government and relevant health departments and medical experts. We will communicate any updates and provide advice in a timely manner.

Football has had many challenges and despite the size of this one, football will find a way through.

My training has been cancelled for at least two weeks and our season launch on friday night is 'tbc'. I'm praying that we will weather the worse of this bloody virus and a sense of normalcy to return eventually.

IMHO this isnt going to be in a state by June where it's a good decision to play out a shortened season, but it's not a terrible decision to take the 'delay and hope' position.

Just interested to know where you heard about the status of ADFA this year?
Also a few other musings;
Will the disruption change the big Canberra clubs' plans to field Div 3 sides this year ie Belco, Tuggers and Eastlake. Will they have the players or the impetus to have lower grade sides?
What is the impact of the likely cancelation of the NEAFL season? How many Canberra Demons will play in First Grade? who benefits the most from that?
Will the regional clubs just put a line through this year, especially the Bay given the hit they and their sponsors took with the bushfires?
Just a few thoughts, I hope we get as many teams and players back as possible, sooner rather than later!

Have heard whispers that ANU and ADFA are struggling because of the campus’ being closed - any truth to this?
also Belconnen fielding both 3s and 4s this year is a late shake up to competition numbers in the 4s

Adfa out , originally Afl Canberra had Goulburn out too but they want in so now the draw will need to be redone . It’s also true Belconnen have entered threes and fours .Anu have also entered threes and fours

With the draw out it looks as though both Goulburn and ADFA have pulled out, both strong sides. Who is everyone tipping in the 3s and 4s?

Cooma would be right up there on the 4's some good pick up looking at the clearances
Molonglo in the 3's

You would have to think murrumbateman would be confident after the signing of Hayden Dobson also, agree Cooma have picked up well.
Molonglo and Woden in 3s
