The famous Collingwood club has bowed to public pressure and will radically alter its identity from the start of the 2022 season. Collingwood spokesman Anton Jurgenstein said today that the current colours and name of the club have become inextricably associated with the perception of racism, regardless of how fair that is to the club. Mr Jurgenstein revealed that the famous black and white striped guernsey would be replaced next year with an all-gold jumper with a green BLM monogram. Former Collingwood champion Heritier Lumumba has given tentative approval to the change but warned that it is just the first step in rehabilitating the club. The new name of the club will pay tribute to high-profile supporter Joffa Corfe and the gold jacket that he wears whenever the club wins a match. From next year, Collingwood will be known as the Gold Coats FC.

In other AFL news, Tasmania and Canberra will finally be represented at AFL level when their brand-new teams make their debuts in 2023. The Tasmanian club will be based in Melbourne and will play all of its home matches at the MCG. It is expected that a fleet of up to 1000 buses and cars will make the long drive from Hobart and Launceston to Melbourne for each home game, transporting an estimated 80,000 Tasmanian supporters to the MCG each week. The new club has been careful to avoid any reference to Hobart or Launceston in its name due to intrastate rivalries. It has also steered clear of using ‘Tasmania’ in the name, as this might compromise the introduction of a second Tasmanian team, expected by 2030. Instead, the new franchise has decided to pay tribute to the wandering spectres of the pioneer convicts and soldiers which still haunt Port Arthur during Tasmania’s freezing winters. The new Tasmanian team will be known as the Cold Ghosts FC.

The new Canberra club will also be based in Melbourne and will play its home matches at the MCG. Officials of the fledgling club have strictly avoided any reference to Canberra or the ACT in the new club’s name for fear of alienating potential supporters in southern NSW. Instead, it has been decided to pay tribute to domestic farm animals which shiver through the icy Southern Highlands winters. The Cold Goats FC will open 2023 with a blockbuster against Gold Coats at the MCG.
