How is the mock draft looking now the invites are out

Very good question.

National combine invites are the best guide thus far as to which players are commanding greatest interest for the draft.

With two months of football left, those inside this group need to maintain/improve their output.

Those outside MUST get a state screening invite and significantly lift their output to be a realistic chance.

Not surprised by the lists to be fair, happy with Tyler Brown who has been good for Marcellin.

Matty McGannon the only big surprise inclusion for me, Jackson Edwards probably 'stiff' but didn't scream out largely to me.

In seeing the list, it doesn't change my thoughts on players. I reckon I could comb through and pick up 20 players that won't get drafted from the list now and be 80+% accurate.

Tim Kelly a mature age invitee - last tested in 2012 & 2013.

AFL talent manager Kevin Sheehan said the fact Kelly’s name appeared among players who starred in the national under-18 carnival showed just how good his season had been.

Kelly is averaging 27 disposals and has booted eighteen goals, as well as being a strong performer in WA’s State game win over Victoria.

I watched him a few times during the championships and he was not super impressive. Solid kid with no outstanding attributes.
What are the key elements recruiters look to take out of the combine. Given that they have seen them play and must have some idea of their physical capabilities is it more the interviews that count?
Also can someone confirm the exact criteria for being invited and does this correlate to all clubs who nominated you sitting down and having an official chat?

Clubs have data on 90%+ of the players invited to the combine anyway, but it gives players a chance to show how much they've improved eg: Jack Higgins working with a sprint coach throughout the year, Cam Rayner's poor beep - how will he go at the yo-yo type of thing. The combine also gives you a good inkling with kids can push through the pain and get that one extra level or which kids will just drop off.

The interview process is generally far more important. Each club nominates who they want to speak to and the players are then assigned from there. Some have 10+, some just a handful - it depends on the player.

The criteria for the combine this year was four nominees from the 18 clubs - no it doesn't translate to who nominated you that you interview, but generally the players who the club nominated they usually will interview them.

But in saying this - the players aren't told what clubs nominated them for the combine, a few clubs do tell the players: but most leave them in the dark.

Ive also been told that clubs are being request to send at least a certain amount of players.l and some clubs at times have to pad their list of names out to reach the quota.

This year clubs were asked to submit 50 names for the national combine - then for the state clubs could add anywhere between 20-50 late last week.

F/S kids & Academy kids are very very rarely added by their own club throughout the process.

Smooth mover & well balanced to my way of thinking....A real-head scratcher he's not at the combine....Can only assume he's told clubs he's not interested in going anywhere other than Adelaide.

I hardly ever watched him play in the midfield. Spent plenty of time in on the HFF and while he did get the ball, was nothing outstanding about his game play.
I may be wrong with this kid, but does massively interest me if we could draft him.

The way he doesn't break stride as he puts the ball to foot is elite in my books.....Definitely something amiss on this one.

Just rewatching the Dandy vs Gippy game and Quigley is a puzzling omission. He has great speed and agility and also an academy player. Not sure how he doesn't get an invite he absolutely has AFL traits

There's still time for a few more inclusions.....Some will opt for the State combine for various reasons & others will be injured, leaving more places open, as happened last year.

A big finals campaign from those on the periphery will see more inclusions I'm sure.
