AFL considering interstate grand finals

Victoria just wants to horde the GF so they can get those tourist dollars. Victorians who defend the current arrangement just want to keep their entitlements. It's so transparently selfish that it is pathetic.

A premier will offer the AFL a too good too refuse deal one day, and that will start the annual process where states bid for the GF.

Rumour is Cook wants the F1 Grand Prix from Victoria, so other state premiers definitely smell blood in the water.

The Grand Final last year drew 100,013 fans at the MCG despite there were no Victorian teams in it and was the biggest crowd with no Victorian sides

MCG hosting the Grand Final is always special.

The Gabba GF in 2020 and Perth Grand Final the following year didn't seem right at all and the fact it was a night and twilight affair made it feel like a normal game

Half the teams in Vic.

They get it every 2nd year.

Other years it hits the road to the state that bids the best deal.

Open and honest.

Bailed out of the east west link and comm games nearly a billion dollars in to thin air
The games was a stupid thing to bid for, that's on them, but East-West Link was an absolute piece of shit of a project. The Liberals tried to screw them by inserting a poison pill into the contract, and I'm glad Andrews didn't budge. Building the entire thing would have cost about $15 billion and done nothing to alleviate traffic.

But they still paid a lot of money for nothing.
As a rates and taxpayer in the state with a bung Pittman arm on my ute from the terrible roads I feel aggrieved.
The don’t even put bins in national parks because it cost money to empty.
I’ve live in Brisbane adelaide and Alice Springs before coming to vic.
Vic cost the most for the least.
Roads and services are awful

Lol.

Pretty obvious why you would be happy with never ending grand finals at your clubs home ground.

Then again Pies fans tend to need that box of tissues 3 times out of 4 right?;)

The deal shafts more that one club buddy. And its Vic bias in its purest, purest form.

Novel idea. Half the teams are based in Vic. The grand final gets played at the MCG every 2nd year. Every other year a different state hosts.

But that would be too fair and reasonable wouldnt it? Far to fair and equitable.
Let's have an equitable league. We can start by stopping all the interstate teams handouts and leg ups they get every year. Great idea!

But they still paid a lot of money for nothing.
Then blame the Liberals for their bastardry in inserting a poison pill into a contract they signed right before the election, when they knew full well the opposition were campaigning on scrapping the project. It was a pig-headed maneuver to gain a political advantage by making the taxpayer lose. Those snivelling grubs deserved every single election loss they've received since then.

The AFL could have had the GF at Optus in 2020 but chose the Gabba with half the spectators since the QLD government paid more. It’s a window into the future and the AFL already know the exact crowd number doesn’t really matter otherwise we should have moved it to Sydney when they had a 110k stadium.

I went to the Perth GF and it was fantastic, so were all the finals in the lead up. I’ve been to 2 GF’s in Melbourne and there is honestly no difference in atmosphere. It’s still the GF, it’s still great being in the place it is and moving it around will build the game and encourage states to build bigger stadiums or refurb them.

The 30 year extension of the MCG deal was the worse decision the league has made and they left so much money on the table because of it. They aren’t going to make that mistake again.

Of course you can’t beat the mcg as the venue for the GF, but I have no problem with having some interstate ones. It’s a national comp.

A grand final in Tasmania would be as big of a blunder as hosting the match at Marvel or GMHBA :-/
Agreed, 55k+ minimum. Means WA, SA & soon to be QLD are fine. Homebush needs to be reconfigured or SCG needs an upgrade.

They can slowly raise it too if they want to put pressure on for better revenue in the future or make state governments pay more if they don’t meet thresholds.

Adelaide , Sydney and Melbourne should rotate on a three year basis . Maybe four year basis even and the G gets 2 of 4

Compared to the Gabba maybe.

In reality it’s maybe the 3rd or 4th best footy stadium in the country.
It's not just about being the best stadium for me. I've only been to 3 stadiums that's fair. But it's the whole vibe. If you have ever experienced a grand final there It's absolutely insane. I wouldn't want to change that.

It should be a home game for which ever team qualifies/earns it.
Would be tough for the AFL to organize a grand final without knowing where it's going to be.

Would be a pain for supporters too. The MCG has 100,000 seats, you are reasonably assured of a grand final ticket if you really want one and your team qualifies. Not sure how many genuine fans will get into Adelaide Oval for a grand final.

(Im also not sure how any team can "qualify" for a home grand final in a competition that has such a compromised fixture?)

Personally would prefer if the AFL just rotated the venue.
