Because it's also Geelong's 'home' ground for 4 games a year? Due to its irregular shape (the Cats play and train there 5 or 6 times every week, the Tigers don't train at the MCG so only get to use it once every two weeks) Skilled Stadium is simply too great an advantage to play finals there and they're extremely fortunate to play H&A there. The fairest venue is the MCG, by a LONG way.

Wait... SS is better suited to finals football than ES and the MCG? I don't think you'll find many people that believe that, including many Geelong supporters.
How did you get to this logic? Skilled is simply too great an advantage to play finals there......well Subiaco, Adelaide and the SCG should be scrapped as finals venues with immediate effect.

Eagles supporter by the way so before anyone misses the sarcasm and flames me......

Wait.....what!!

So by this logic Essendon should be furious they're having to play Sydney at the SCG and GWS should be similarly upset about playing the Crows at Adelaide Oval. Both been there and done that in 2017 with no return match.
Done. Move it to spotless. Its our only hope

No worse than a team finishing second having to play at the 3rd placed teams home ground. Hardly a level playing field wherever you look..
You've got a home state final that you've had for your entire history. Never whinged before this year about it. I can't believe the amount of Geelong tosses on this thread hijacking it. Stick to the topic please. Read the OP again. There are other threads to post this utter crap.

The MCG played host to 3 matches that weekend. That is why it was played at KP. It was extenuating circumstances. It is the only final ever played there. The AFL has an obligation to the members of finals teams to be able to purchase tickets to see the game. Having 17K members out of 74K is outrageous when the MCG is vacant. As posted, if they built an 60-80k stadium down at Geelong, we probably would not be having this discussion.
The fact Geelong are Victorian and Richmond have lots of members shouldn't have become their disadvantage. If GWS, Adelaide, Port or the Eagles had finished second, how many Tigers fans would get tickets? You've got the double chance, with home semi final or prelim...that is your earned advantage.

So one form of corruption is different to another as it's been accepted so long?

In defence of Geelong fans I think they find they find the outcome unfair but as you pointed out a previous post it never was an issue until the Freo final at Geelong. Cats fans always knew finals game were played at the MCG or VFL Park or Ethiaad.

The disconnect is that all other sides (bar Gold Coast should they ever make it) get a home ground final. Its easier to accept this and other things in the AFL once you accept the game is a business.

You think it's corruption. A minority does. The vast majority know it makes sense giving the members of both clubs a chance to attend the game.
Please stop hijacking the thread with your own agenda which appeals to precious few.

Nah. The rules state that the higher placed team gets a home State final, so games have to be played at those venues. But SS is MUCH more of an advantage than playing any other side anywhere. Why do you think they have such a great record there? One side of the ground's almost straight FFS!

Ridiculous comparison. Even then, we would have outnumbered GWS members just like the bulldogs did at Spotless last year. I would have gone as many of my friends would have. Hell, if it wasn't ticketed, We would have sold out Spotless alone!
With the other teams it would depend on the number of Stadium members they have. Home state finals are the norm anyway.

'Why can't other teams get that perk' is ironic given you now have a home final which is normally a perk for the team finishing above another, although in this case it has been turned on its head. But you're ok with that because it suits you. My point is corruption is endemic in this competition but some pick and choose when to be outraged. And just because it has always been the case doesn't make it right..

No. One form of corruption is ok because it benefits the individuals team..

Totally different.

What is so corrupt in asking a team to play a home state final?
They have been the rules for many years AND there have NEVER been any complaints from anyone until this year.

If it was so corrupt, why hasn't anyone raised the issue before?

What is so corrupt in asking a team to play a home state final except for Grand Finals?

Edited for accuracy.
And yes, this has been complained about for a long time, and yes we know it's never going to change because the Victorian clubs will never let it.

You keep going back to the "rules" like they are the arbiter of what is "fair". Apply that logic to the OP and see how far you get. OMG, how thick are some people?

I think you'll find most supporters on here believe the team finishing above deserve an advantage, it's just the tigers supporters saying otherwise.

Regardless the main point is your outrage at an integrity issue which may disadvantage your team while completely ignoring another integrity issue which happens to help your team a huge amount.

And you have the nerve to suggest the geelong supporters are one eyed!

Anyway I'm out, you're boring and s hypocrite.

So you arent against our academies?

They are the rules.

Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
I'm not against academies until you are a well established side with success. After a team is established the academies should persist but the access to players to all teams should be made more even.
So the Giants and GC can have academies but Sydney should open up its academy to all teams with only having a slight advantage.

So by using the logic that rules that have been established and no one complains about them should persist, this rule needs tweaking as there have been many complaints since its inception.

The main thing that annoys me about the whole thing is that the only reason that it's at the mcg is the opponent and because no other games are at the mcg. Essentially because no other Melbourne teams are good enough Geelong are penalised.

It's just the inconsistency. If the afl came out and said regardless of opponent Geelong will always play finals at the mcg I think everyone would be cool with it. But because of the ifs and butts it instead becomes this weird inconsistent situation

What does this have to do with Tom Lynch being appointed ambassador by the AFL???
