AFL Corruption

Just like sands through the hourglass, So are the days of WC fans whining.

"And by others, yes I mean poor lil' WC"

It simply a sweeping statemeent champ. It applies to many decisions and all clubs. One example is extending the grand final deal behind closed doors with no competitive tender process.

Anyway we hope to see your mob in Perth next year. Its been a while.

And a big thank you to the Richmond team this year too. All the dumb sh!t youve done this season has the boys at AFL House pretty pissed off. Havent seen anythink like it since.....well the Swans stealing Franklin after the AFL wanted a GWS deal.

Is the AFL deciding on the Gabba because QLD government says they will spend more money on Aussie rules in QLD bribery?

No. Its a smart decision.

WA had first crack and were dicks. QLD agreed and get the GF.

There is only one peraon to blame for WA not getting the GF. And West Australians love his stupid xenophobia.

It’s funny how times changed and the league was absolutely filthy when the Swans gazumped the Giants and signed Buddy Franklin.

If GWS didn't exist yet or weren't interested, the AFL would've done cartwheels at the prospect of Franklin joining the Swans. Now that it's done and dusted they are happy about the boost it has given the Swans, even if they haven't won a flag with him there.

The reason they were filthy is that they weren't the ones pulling all of the strings. GWS was the latest pet project and they wanted Franklin to go there and be the marquee star after the Folau disaster and none of Scully, Ward, Davis etc. really being that guy. GC had Ablett, GWS didn't have a Martin, Fyfe, Danger etc. The AFL have their biases but first and foremost are control freaks. Look at out they treat low drawing clubs in Melbourne. The AFL's preferred model is that they control everything and decide who gets money and why so the clubs toe the line. They don't want more Geelongs running their own show. Franklin moving to the Swans after Tippett the year prior really killed the AFL's ability to sell the CoLA as a necessity too.

An absolute disgrace the way Fitzroy were treated . Every Fitzroy person I’ve ever met were quality people . And what do we replace them with ? Port Power , no tradition , no class , just ferals.

fitzroy was a grand club with grand tradition and a Knack of turning out champions .

For mine it's up to the WA clubs to use their financial clout to change the AFL. Never has the AFL and the Victorian clubs been so financially under stress; Victoria is going to be a wasteland post JobKeeper and the basket case AFL franchises and minnow Victorian clubs will never be so vulnerable.

Western Australia's mining industry which is currently largely bank-rolling the country, together with the accumulation of debt has changed the power dynamics. The Western Australian clubs should as a minimum be demanding a third club in the State to reflect the strength of the WAFL and its contribution to the game; to have the same number of clubs in NSW and Queensland as you have in WA and SA is insulting. Reduce the competition to 16 clubs and get rid of the financially non-viable clubs.

Threaten the AFL with a break-away competition, I think you would find most of the powerful Victorian clubs are just as tired of being expected to bank-roll the AFL franchises and to have virtually every national draft be the sole resource of the basket-cases.

Fix the competition and then you can move on to fixing the corruption, the contrived outcomes, the abysmal media coverage and pathetic umpiring.
Sorry this is a long one again!

Problem there is three clubs in WA simply drains the player pool even more!
A real national competition with our nations population would see about 14 teams, GC17 should never have happened and GWS the same, this is not the clubs I'm knocking, it is the numbers. Can you imagine the talent running around in 14 clubs from all over the country, you would have to be bloody brilliant to get a game, its a bit easier with 18 and a player pool that can't fill every need!
The AFL is a corporate greed machine, and has no one to answer to for its meddling in OUR traditional Australian Sport and the way they are usinfg this COVID year to look at changing the game more and more next year, fixture changes, 18 minute quarters. Well you have to be suspicious of anything these people do.
Especially anything to do with what might look like AFLX , a terror I never watched, but if you look at shorter quarters and faster games you are looking at two things

1. the game will be fiddled to a point that you don't recognise it FASTER SHORTER and the reason only one! TV MONEY!!!
And I believe over seas markets which is a failure, it'll be lightning fast.

2. What that 'll cause is number 2. point, which is more injuries more speed, more lack of skills with handball and kicking like now , because the game is too fast, and packs forming, the game not flowing and if they think it won't flow then they'll butcher the rules more.
Right now they already have for 15 to 17 years.

The AFL is a wrecker not any good has come of OUR game from this AFL commission what ever it's called, since Demitriou and his apprentice Gil.

I reckon if every body put up a list of things that is wrong with opur game and why that list would reflect how that now, umpire control has almost taken in some circumstances the contest away and goals can be scored fro frees. the frees rule our game , they never used to, you can barely touch someone and a free " can " be called but not always , and there's the poison in the grey rules.

I'd love to see everyones lists when they've watchjed their teams own games and if you are a follower of the game watch other sides get helped or get crusified by 1 or 2 or 3 frees that just aren't there.

Or more importantly shouldn't even have a penalty attached to them, confusion inconsistency , umps can't help it they have a nightmare of complication to go through in split seconds, or some of them don't have a feel for the game at all.
I'll give you two Ruck duels , should never have a penalty full stop, They are both infringing if you want to go to extremes in a rule?

50 metre penalties are nearly in an abusive manner when used for ridiculous nonsense like invading space, or not stepping half an inch inside a set mark, why do we have umpires calling balls back too stopping the game, its stop start like Rugby, .
By the way, the 50 penalty is not used now for what it was intended for only, that is heavy heavy duty over kill in a tackle and bump or a deliberate smack in the mouth. Now an over sensitive umpire can give a fifty if he feels insulted by swearing, when these grown men are playing for lots of money and the rules now frustrate the living daylights out of players who have to try to hold it in. It is provocative and umpires should never be seen or heard.
My thirty year old son tells me yesterday , if they piddle around any more with the game next year, or stop tradition and try these night Grand Finals , or shorten the game he says he's done , won't follow any more, the frustration is too much. He's a member too.

Only watches our games (Haw), I watch more games but I leave if the umpiring begins to turn a game. That happens all the time. I just walk out.

Why are you staggered?

We all know that the AFL is a business. It's not a balanced sporting comp designed to find the best yeam each year.

Only the deluded die hards in their duffle coats cheering for the boys each week still believe that.

It's an entertainment product. I find it very entertaining, as I do many other sports.

It's just like watching a decent TV show and hoping your favourite character doesn't get killed off.

If you take it any more seriously than that, well, you're a fool really.

Strong post content to team followed ratio.

How can guys like Steele play ONE standout season make an All Australian team, while guys like Cunnington, Treloar and Ward can't after years of excellence?

From the outside it seems like it's a flawed system of inadequacies and bias.
Have you seen Treloar dispose of the ball?

Thanks for this thread OP, was an absolute disgrace what the AFL did to Richmond with Plugger.

And people today think our 38 years in the wilderness was self-inflicted...simply put the AFL are very calculating, they knew the type of team they could kill when needed ('roys) and the team with such diehard support that they could rob it blind without fatally wounding it.

First Lockett, and then soon after Maxfield, Sydney got it's HOF FF and captain, and Richmond got another bucket of @#$% to eat till 2001.

Much of Sydney's stabilization as a club was built on pilfering those two from the Tigers, but you rarely hear any gratitude from bloods fans on here.

As ridiculous as it sounds I think you’re right. WA has a chance to correct the course and make significant change for the good of the game. Let’s hope they take it.

I agree that the big ViC clubs would be interested and many Vic fans are more than ready for the current regime to fall.

Crazy times
Vic or not, and I am, I would love the current AFL regime to disappear completely before we don't have a football game that resembles our game to watch!

Because you know why decisions are made?

Given all states other than VIC have had things under control for months, we have a very good guess why. Cashing in on latent xenophobia. WA people have a massive chip on their shoulder about being different.

What do you mean "It's been a while?" Richmond has played West Coast alternating between home and away since 2014 with Richmond travelling to Perth in 2013 & 2014. The last time Richmond had consecutive home games against West Coast was R22 2006 and R5 2007. Both those seasons Richmond and West Coast played twice anyway. To add Fremantle into the equation Richmond haven't missed a trip to Perth for 20 years.

The original 2020 draw had Richmond playing West Coast and Fremantle in Perth.

That's not why I quoted you though. The second part about Franklin going to Sydney is why. The deal obviously did upset the AFL hence why they are forced to pay the whole deal even if he retires. I wouldn't call it corruption (I don't think it meets the definition) but it certainly stinks of abusing the rules.

The Lockett deal is probably the first high profile deal stitched up by the AFL but it certainly won't be the last. Franklin to GWS was going to be a similar deal to Lockett to Sydney but it just didn't go the way the AFL wanted.
