Ok, so to begin with download this PS3 cover template (note: I didn't make this, I found it on the net somewhere and can't remember where):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IBQ9BYZ8
If you want to do a 360 cover you'll need to find a template yourself.
Once you have finished downloading, open up the file and go to File>Save as and save it to your desktop, calling it something along the lines of "AFL game cover".
Next you will want to find a background, I used a photo from the MCG. To make sure it did not stand out too much, I added a white overlay (Layer>Layer Style>Colour Overlay) and changed the opacity to 65% so it looked something like this:

Now I suggest finding the players pictures you want to use, I used Zimbio.com. If you just search for their name you will be able to find a lot. Remember to get pictures of the player 3/4s or directly face on, and make sure no other player is overlapping.
After the desired images have been found, open up each individually in Photoshop, and using the Eraser tool carefully remove all the background to create a cut-out or "render" of the player. (Note: This is probably the most time consuming part)
Once you have finished this, copy the players across into you PS3 Cover window and position them where you please.

Next is a fairly difficult part. Decide on some sort of way of getting the words AFL 2010 onto the cover. I went with a design similar to the one FIFA uses. This is entirely up to you, spend a fair amount of time on it as it is one of the most important parts. The dimensions all the way across the front of the template are 1530 pixels if you wish to create something similar to me. Make sure you create it in another window to avoid clutter.
Once you are done copy it across and position it where you please.

Now add in the Big Ant and Tru Blu Studios logos (these can be found easily on Google Images) and an Australian rating if you wish. (Note: Look in the folders found in the layers to hide any logos you do not want to appear on the cover which are there by default).
Finally add some finishing touches such as splatter brushes because they're badass and if you wish, complete the back of the game cover.
After you're done, save the entire this (ctrl+s) and then go into save as and save it as a .png file. After you have done this, remove the back if you did not bother to complete it (Press M and then create a square around the front and press ctrl+c and then ctrl+n and create a new file. Paste the front in and overight the previous .png file). If you understood that then just go and upload the finished product to www.imageshack.us and paste the forum code here.

Hope that helps a bit, a lot of it you must do yourself.

:thumbsu: Excellent post for those new to Photoshop. Another way I use to cut out the players' image is using the magnetic lasso tool. After that, just expand and feather if you don't want the jaggy edges

I've never liked magnetic lasso, but I tried using it tonight and it does make it far easier :thumbsu:

Re, the magnetic lasoo, I have used it thousands of times but it sometimes auto finishes the selection for me. Very annoying. 80% through a detailed selection and it just cuts a line straight to the start point. Happen to anyone else?

The pen tool is by far the easiest cutting tool their is. And most accurate. Definitely use it. :thumbsu:

That happens when you double click. Usually happens to me when I try and set too many of those little anchor point things. You could always just cut out the bits that weren't cut out the first time and merge them :thumbsu: That's what I do anyway.

winner so far, but i think you need gazza or judd, instead of a lecras. even tho i love barlow, i dont think he will get on the cover, but who knows

It wasn't really a proper cover, I just wanted to make something more colourful than the navy blue and white Geelong and Carlton offer up
