Derksen was interviewed on Road to the Draft podcast last week, I happened to listen to that episode.

He previously came to play for Essendon's VFL team but then covid happened and he and his partner moved back to WA with their kid (he has a 2 year old), where he now plays for Peel.

They are originally from there so would probably prefer to be picked up at West Coast, but I think he's been trying to get into the AFL system for a while now so will take what he can get and has moved around before.

Haven't heard of Carmichael before – anyone know anything about him?

22 year old 189 cm mid/forward who's averaging 24 touches and a goal a game in the SANFL this year

I’d be shocked if Culley is still there. You don’t pass on a kid with that upside regardless of needs.

I actually think Carmichael has as much upside as Culley.

Came from playing local footy to doing well at state level within 6 months.

Kicks goals, big, ONLY 22 so upside still there
