I haven’t seen Carmichael yet but plan to soon but Culley is just about the best fit I’ve ever seen 😂 if he is available and bombers pass on him it will be very obvious the club has no idea what the list really needs
I’ve watched a half of Carmichael and yes he would be a nice addition if Culley is gone. A strong bodied mid who is strong overhead around the ground, a great kick and clean hands. Wouldn’t say he is a stoppage specialist like a Parish but think he could provide a good mix and could easily play well half forward or on a wing with that marking and kicking ability.

Luckily our two father-son prospects Alwyn and Jayden offer plenty to the list. I don’t think anymore talls are the way to go unless they are a tall inside mid but it’s certainly an area of the draft that’s weak this year. In terms of improving the contested side of the list in general the likes of Wardlaw and Ashcroft at the top end and further down the line like Clark, Hewett and Szybkowski all fit well.

I like Kobe Ryan as he could potentially play a few roles but he is just a natural footballer who earns heaps of free kicks by just getting his head over the ball. Later in the draft players like D’Aloia and Bevan are big bodied mids although neither have much explosiveness or impact on the outside but as pure first possession winners they go their job week in and week out.

I feel that only one of Eyre or Brand survives the list cuts with both out of contract. Francis must be in serious doubt. Lets not bank on a 3rd year irishman either.

I feel a top end talented key position (forward) would certainly not go astray.

I’ve always seen Eyre, Brand and McBride as long term prospects and cutting any of them now would seem like a bad list decision imo. All 3 have had just about the worst development possible as young talls playing in a struggling VFL side week in and week out without any mature key position players beside them to help them.

The list has two many developing talls as it is and getting rid of one to add another doesn’t really work for me. Depth in the midfield and small/medium forwards is the area that I think needs bolstering most with draft picks.

As Ive mentioned before, I don't see a bankable key forward amongst our U24 year olds. Eyre is the only 'natural' one and even he doesn't fill me with huge confidence.

I don't see us keeping both Eyre & Brand and Francis should be moved on with no set position. So going into 2023 with a (possible) irishman, a 20 year old who is better up the ground and that is it.

Key forwards look to be staring us in the face in the top 10 - 20 this years draft, if we go elsewhere then our list management team really doesn't have much of an idea. Small forwards will be filled by Davey x 2, a possibly medium fwd with huge x - factor (Munkara) so two spots you want filled before we even find a draftee.

Big midfielders can be found anywhere, I'm on the Joel Trudgeon bandwagon who was given a huge wrap from a coach of his in a story on AFL.com.au (may have been fox sports) as a big bodied team playing midfielder. Zavier Maher as another who is a big bodied midfielder. That's not even talking about the 18 years likely available after pick 40.

It is well documented that the better key forwards are found early, we don't have one.

eDPS I remember you talking about a Judd like mid for this year early last year, was that Tsatas?
Judd like in how he can read the ruck taps and hit them at speed and emerge from contests with speed but that’s just about the only real comparison to make. He isn’t as strong and big as Judd was and I’m not sure his frame will ever get the required size to play like Judd did at AFL level.

Same Page as you, develop the talls all together, Jones, Reid, Cox, are the ones who currently look ok, If Scully is available providing he performs in the champs we should seriously look at him and stay longer at the bottom of the ladder, and recruit mids and contested ball players by actually identifying players who are contested with 2nd, 3rd rounders. Clarkson in the early days recruited 4 kpp players using top 5 picks and ended up with Buddy and Roughead. We need to start all over again.
Had 3 picks and got a handy one lewis a few spots after buddy.
Hodge already on the list too.

And found a club to gift him access to burgoyne.

I would argue you can find plenty of key forwards taken top 10 that did not make it.
Not saying we should not look at one but the last line is not actually well documented. It has been very 50/50 as far as taking key forwards early and the top 5 picks are worse than the pick 5 to 15 range.

In recent years, it is being a much more exact science than it was 15 years ago.

Take a look at the top 10 key forwards in the Coleman medal this year

Lynch (pick 11)
C.Curnow (12)
Hawkins (was a well documented father son that should have been taken inside the top 10 of his draft year iirc)
Wright (8)
Cameron (pre zone selection but would have been taken early)
M.King (4)
Naughton (9)
Buddy (5)
Casboult (44 rookie draft)
H.McKay (10)

I don't think it is outrageous to think that the better key forwards are taken inside the first round.
Maybe it was lost in translation, I did mean first round, not exclusively the first few selections.

Any descent small forwards in the MSD?
Snelling, Guelf & Dev will have to be cover for the year.
we get Davey (are both boys small forwards?) and could get Munkara too.

At this point, if Cox doesn't land on the LTI I'd probably rip the band aid off and ask Hurls to retire. Go 2x MSD picks mids and hope one or both pan out and look at our first being used on Sheezel.
As desperate as we are for a mid or two, our small forward stocks are dwindling.

From what eDPS has posted one Davey is a small forward (Jayden I think, who's done his ACL) whilst the other tends to play FWD/Mid more.

Munkara is around the 190cm mark now so isn't a small forward option either if we managed to get him

McGrath Reid Laverde
Redman Ridley ?????
Durham Merrett ?????
Perkins ????? Martin
Jones Wright ?????
Draper Hobbs Parish

Caldwell Cox Langford ?????
?????

The blanks are what we need to target over the next few drafts IMO

If we can draft Tsatsas, Davey and potentially Munkara that alone could fill a few blanks - especially our big forward line holes. Hopefully Tex can come through or we certainly may need an interim small forward solution.

Munkara plays small despite his height

Without having seen Munkara I gather he’s capable of getting up and probably has crazy vertical but does his best work on the deck despite his size?

I haven’t seen him jump much although he is a good mark overhead he does his best work at ground level with his speed and timing. Can kick of either foot with ease aswell
