Nice that we're looking at the right type of player. But he's an average injury prone KPD, so basically Stewart but a much worse kick. Tyreece Leiu probably the defender who suits us the most

Yeah no thanks.

No battlers please.

He's the perfect example of in-between all of the characteristics being discussed earlier or in the other list management thread.

At 196cm Oscar McDonald meets the cut off for height and he's slow as shit. Unlike a Hooker or Carlisle he's not a monster and can't control the air.

There is almost no one McDonald is suited to playing on that makes our defence any more sustainable.

Oscar McDonald does not excite me much either but in the past we have been linked to Mason Cox and Bobby Hill and everyone went yuck. I know Cox is injured right now but he has been good since he has been able to wear his specs and can actually see the ball properly.

Wouldn't Narkle get a look? It seems he is doing everything right so far and I have said for a few years I think he could be a handy pick up.

eDPS
Is Sam Frangalas a shout for our first? what sort of player is he because everything I have read says Essnedon needs you.
I like him as a potential first round prospect, genuine goal kicking midfielder. Rough around the edges but has some spark to his game.

As far as Lord, Heppell, Stewart, Tippa

Id add Baldwin and Phillips as no certainties. Phillips or his replacement could be put on the rookie list

The MSD picks dont seem to be jumping out at the moment

Also surprises me Zerk hasnt signed. Is he just looking to play a full year and bring up his worth. TBH his worth is at its all time highest right now and his manager should be signing him if he wants to stay

Probably not a priority for club or players atm.

He will get a bigger offer if he waits until the club knows how much they have after signing others, and also when he’s proven himself a bit longer.

Club has bigger fish to fry, although they might like the PR of a re-signing announcement.

Could already be done too, but not announced

One to keep an eye on for the rookie draft at the end of the year is Sam Paea from Werribee. 194cm forward. Moves pretty well and is a decent kick . Looks a good rookie prospect from what I have seen.

IIRC, Stuyza has one more year at least.

Was on our VFL list and played at least one game for us last year did he not?

Was when he was at Calder as a 19 year old over age . Played 1 game in 2021.
Now in his second season with Werribee. Looks to be heading in the right direction.

From memory don't a lot of them get done around / over the bye period?

It’s more just the opportune moment, which depends on each player and the club’s priorities. I don’t think we usually have a flood of re-signings at the bye.

If a player is backing themselves in to find form then once they’ve shown that form for a few weeks and start getting some level of recognition within the club, they will sign. Same player gets injured, they sign immediately before we forget their good form. Those are usually a Monday or Tuesday announcement most often after a win or “brave loss”. That’s your Durham, Martin, 2MP re-signing scenario. Probably also more likely if we have a 7-9 day break than a 5-6 dayer.

Players that are in form, not injured, looking for a big payday, you’d think the managers would be in contact with the clubs and working out where they’re happy. Then when the players have a moment to think about something other than nutrition, recovery and watching footage around the bye, if both sides are happy you probably get a quick contract signing at that point, if they’re still haggling it probably drags out to July or something. That’s your Merrett, Parish type scenario.

Draftees fall into either of the above categories depending on their management and how good they think they are. First round picks typically in category 2.

Then you have more role-player types that never break a game open but are generally dependable and sometimes fringe. Those get done either late in the season when you win games in R16+ or after the season is done, as the club starts to finalise things and knows whether they’re bringing anyone in, who is leaving, what the replacements might be, etc.

And then the last type is the “oh shit we aren’t going to meet the salary cap floor, we better re-sign a contracted player with more money sooner” which is how you get contracted Ridley (2021) or Draper (2022) re-signed in the off-season.

In Zerk’s case I’d expect him to be in Martin/Durham/2MP type territory where he will continue to show good form and probably announce a re-signing soon, if not then probably at the bye. Would be kind of rude if the club leaves him hanging out until October.

That’s my theory anyway, seems to gel with what we know.
