Unless we overpay to trade up with the Eagles, we can’t lose tonight.
Yeah that's the only way I will be frustrated. Imagine we trade up for CDT and he becomes a bust. Please no.

Stay put at 5, 6 and 9 and get whoever of Robey, Taylor and Cumming drop + Sharp and Dovaston/Farrow/Pickett.

If we end up with 43 which comes into the 30's after bids matched, and NHH or Phillipou is still on the board do we match a bid for Sweid?
Yeah I was literally just about to ask this, I think if a bid is in the 20’s I think Essendon don’t match the Sweid bid. I’m also curious where 43 lands on the night, I’d love if it got a 6 spot upgrade. I’d have to do a mock simulator to find out.

Agreed that we shouldn't budge. We're in a desirable position overall with a range of targets that will fit our list needs. Pretty intriguing situation with our academy picks as well...over to you Tigers!

Freo is the one we have to get through, pretty well every mock has them bidding on him.

Matching, even if it means we have to make another live trade to accumulate more selections, would mean a 4th 1st round selection. We are either playing very coy or are not very keen on him, which I can't really understand, seems a hand in glove fit.

Seems like a good play to ward Freo off. ie Be prepared to take him if you bid.

I'd match the bid on Sweid if NHH is the best of the guys left on the board. There's a reason he's slipped.

The other thing though that we'll need to consider (outside of going into deficit, needing to do another late trade for points etc...) is - if we choose not to match, it's not as simple as "We like a guy that is left on the board more than Sweid, so we won't match." It could be a good 10 picks before we then actually get to use that selection.

I would imagine in Rosa's head the best case scenario here is using our 3 high picks, match Sweid, leave a list spot open as we always like to do over the summer, and hope El Achker gets through to the rookie draft. That'll be their ideal outcome, but may need to pivot on the night(s) depending on what other clubs do with our 2 academy guys.

Sweid is a talent and we are getting him for a song, even if we need to trade out an F3 to get the points we need to match. I understand the posturing to discourage the bid but when it comes I can't see is not finding a way to match.

I think at this point, compromising your 2026 1st rounder (which will be a high pick) to chase a mid 2nd rounder bid with a 100+ point differential you're cutting your nose to spite your face.
Also, if anyone hasn't seen it yet, PommyinOz has a great trade predictor platform to play with:

It's an awesome bit of free play fun and I've wasted far too much of my work time on it..

Still hoping Richmond take Farrow/Grlj with Cumming. Take Robey and Taylor and hope Sharp slips past Melbourne
I'm not sure I could risk losing Sharp to Melb.

only way possibly would be if one of Farrow/Cumming is on the board. So Tigers taking Grlj
But I still think X Taylor will be a tiger, much to your disappointment

Gold coast are the team that’s gonna have points in the 40’s, so if we need points for sweid they’re a team that’s got them. Issue is we don’t have anything to trade, future 4th rounders have 0 points in value. Ive done a realistic mock draft and if we get 43 back from Carlton, we’ll have pick 35. So there’s a chance that Sweid can be bided on after that and we take another player on top.

What are the chances that GC get out of the 2026 draft to match bids in this draft? They have a lot of good academy bids this year and probably can bank them. I wonder if it's worth pitching the Carlton 43 (when it migrates up the board to ~37) for a future 2nd rounder instead of taking Sweid?
Beau Addinsall bid will come at around ~18 which will require ~752 points. I'd be considering going to GC and saying you can have our pick 37 for your 2026 Melbourne 2nd rounder.
We get to death ride Melbourne again!

Sweid looks like a very good prospect, size aside. Still cracks in hard and quick and clean with the ball. Sounds like he has a lot of hunger and self belief too, especially after having such a strong season after the ACL and missing his bottom age year.

His height is the main question mark but guys like Zorko, Touk Miller, Dylan Moore and Prestia never let height stop them.

Hopefully he doesn't attract an early bid... Sweid Kako and Dovaston together in the forward line would be great.

As good a tactic as any, really.

I would say we do, and I hope we do have some contingencies in the can if we need to go out and get another pick in the late 30s or early 40s to match, not just for Sweid, but Huss as well if a surprise bid comes in.

The two Adelaide teams look like they may have a surplus at the back end of the draft and Port in particular, may appreciate a future 4th to start to stock up on points.

If a bid does come in at the Freo pick 25 as mooted, we would probably need to find something like pick 47, ish. Doable, definitely.

They’ve already agreed to trade their picks to GWS Adelaide and port Adelaide
