I always thought of Hall as a FF because that's where he usually is named and starts. The only time he seems to play up the ground is when he isn't getting it.

I do hope I'm wrong about him with regard to this year as there's no doubt his starting price will be extremely tempting if he manages to get back to his best.

I guess that's yet another player I will have to have a close look at in the NAB.. they're mounting up :)
That's one name you can cross off your list then. He wont be playing in the NAB Cup, the first game anyway. Due to the interchange restrictions Hall, Goodes, and a selection of senior player's will not play.

this years NAB cup isnt going to be good for DT Pre-Season.. so many players look to be rested, especiallly older ones.. and so many team 'systems' or set ups won't be what they will be in round one..

Damn.. you're right then. Certainly won't be picking him sight unseen. Forgot about the interchange rule. This is going to be nasty..

On the other side of the coin though, it might give us a better look at the up and coming talent. Only question is will they actually get a start come season proper. I got burned big time with Trotter from Nth last year. Prospectus talked him up and I picked him and then Laidley only gave him two starts for the season. Couldn't even use him as a cash cow! He sat on my bench for the whole bloody season :(

This is by all means a legitimate question but when I was asked it by one of my mates I thought he was an idiot.

"Is a downgrade from Judd to Murphy a massive points loss decision?"

When i thought about it, its actually not as stupid as it sounds. Judd is a quality midfielder but he will now get the no. 1 tag (he probs still did at wc but he had kerr and cousins around him so it didnt really matter). Murphy on the other hand will have the pressure lifted with the arrival of judd and the return of stevens. It is an extra 40K also the thing im concerned with is how many points would u expect to lose by doing this?

Exactly the same thing as i've been thinking about mate. I want to get Murphy but i'm not sure whether i can pass up on Chris Judd. It's a tough one. If you want to get Murphy it means you can spend big on another midfielder. Murphy should average 80 this year, hopefully. If he averages 80 I would be pleased i got him. What does everyone else think?

In a word, yes, but if you can make those points up (and hopefully more) with the 40k you save then it could be a good option.

I know exactly how you feel. I got burned by his teammate Matt Riggio. He played every pre season game and then 1 or 2 from memory in the season proper. He sat on my bench all year and did nothing.

I'd hope for 85-90. When Murph really comes on he will be an absolute gun DT'er because he does well in every stat box (kicks goals, has a high kick to handball ratio, takes marks ect).

i'm just wondering what people's strategies on how cash to leave over?
should you keep 200 grand sitting there or just like 50?
The more you have left over, the less you've spent on your starting 22. Last year I left far too much in the bank, and languished near the bottom of the top 10, 000 for a long time. This year I think I'll have less than 50k left.

Regarding Marc Murphy, I was looking at his profile from '07 and noticed he only scored 100 once, which I thought was kind of odd for a player costing nearly 300k. In comparison to other players around that price, it is in fact pretty low (even Ryan Houlihan managed two). The only other player I found scoring so few hundreds at a comparable price was Sydney's Jude Bolton. I guess you could argue that without the taggers he should score a lot better in '08, but for me I think I'd rather go for a player who can score highly on a more consistant basis.

I like the fact that you tried to avoid having inexperienced players on your field but the problem that it creates is that your team lacks any real 'guns' except for Brown and Judd (you're kinda short on captaincy options here). It also leaves you with a lot of consistant scorers that don't really produce big numbers. The ones I've bolded are ones that I would consider problematic to your structure, look for some bargains and upgrade with the money saved :thumbsu:.

you can pm me if you want;)

I've learnt a lot in a year.

Anyway....

I think I've decided that if Scott Thompson is listed as a forward im going to pick him ahead of Riewoldt. Purely due to the fact that Thompson plays in the middle and is more consistent in his scores and won't drop too much in price. Whereas Riewoldt will have a bad game eventually that is under 50 and will drop in price massively to around 300-330k, where I can then trade a Didak or Hall for him.

thoughts?

Good idea :thumbsu:, I was considering this with Riewoldt and Pavlich, which to get and which would drop in price more, but a running mid named as a forward is also always a chance of consistant high scores, as you say.

ari, couldn't you just post the problematic part rather than the whole lot? I'll try help best I can if you don't mind sending a PM my way.

lots has been made of Johnstone going to Brisbane but not alot has been talked about Johnstone leaving Melbourne. Who will be the one from Melbourne to step up into his midfield role?
