What part do you disagree with? That spoiling exists? That tackling exists? That pressing exists?
You've seen like 30 seconds of gameplay with people who don't know the controls and you're making wild judgments.

Certainly living up to the Angry Ranga name.

As for the Heath Shaw bit everyone is drooling about, the only reason that happened was because the other player clearly didn't know the tackle button.

Gameplay was worse than I was expecting, it's all Live 2. I wanted some Live 1 elements but that was clearly a PR stunt.
Actually, you'll find your observation is wrong on two counts:
  1. You see the controlled player first attempting to lay a tackle, but he misses and stumbles after lunging due to a sharp turn by Shaw
  2. After this, the person chooses to control a player a distance away from Shaw, but the AI is still in close pursuit
As much as I loved AFL Live 1, two of the biggest problems was that the tackler seemed to clunk onto the opposition like two superconductive magnets combining, and also that having the ball in hand was like running in mud, to the extent that ruckmen could chase down midfielders.

You will find that point 1 and 2 addresses these concerns, respectively.

what exactly do you have a problem with though??

looks pretty good to me and even big titles PES Soccer could have their improvements but are still great games..

Not everything has to be perfect..

This at least looks quite progressive in certain areas..
Seems to be very man on man, like players don't stray 5m from their opponent. Also there didn't seem to be much of a chance for defenders in marking situations, having said that, they are probably unlikely to showcase defensive stuff to promote the game. I'm still going to hold back until I've played a few hours though.

You are one of those people aren't you?
And who would one of those people be?

To be fair, if it was faithful to the modern game then you would see every player on screen at once. Technical limitations aside (I doubt there'd be any), I cannot see the AFL funding or even ticking off on a product that replicates the style of game they're so hellbent on changing. It wouldn't surprise me if they mandated a lack of rolling packs in the gameplay, not unlike your suggestion that the inclusion of the AFLW was forced upon WW.

Looks alright.

I just hope that you can mark the ball and play on literally right away, in Live 1 you had to wait until your player ran back all the way which took like 3-4 seconds, incredibly annoying.

This actually makes a lot of sense, very smart analysis of why the gameplay is what it is..

After the spin move, when he starts turning inside, one white GWS player (the top one) just breezes straight past him instead of going for the tackle.

Making "Wild judgements"? Presumably that includes anyone making positive comments on the game as well then?

Personally I think an exact recreation of modern football would be both too hard and not much fun
As a video game.
Gimme old school footy any day.
Having said that their is far more space away from the contest in modern footy than ever
To suggest that WW couldn't do it also not the case, because they developed Rugby Challenge which is congested traffic and large packs of players wanting the ball.

As was mentioned, i think they probably went for a more middle balance on Evolution..

I don't mean too hard from a technical point of view (number of players on screen) I mean from an Ai point of view. Getting the tactics and running patterns decent enough and gameplay around really congested stoppages and loose balls.
It would be a scrap fest.
I'm happier playing a more open game that showcases skills than a rugby unionesque scrimmage.

Well by the looks of that, it seems as if the player had just been switched to and the people playing the game may have just held down the sprint button causing him to run past. Honestly mate, I'm all for in-depth analysis but you're just being over dramatic.

Both sides are judging from the same tiny sample size but the way you're looked to be a negative prick for saying the game looks chaotic and robotic is classic Bigfooty – you say a player on your team is shit on here and they literally start doubting who you support.

Check out mumfords nuts haha
It's definitely not his nuts. It is however part of the cushion he is sitting on... if you have a look to the left of screen you can see a second pillow with the same pattern..

I was cautiously optimistic but this even exceeded my expectations (or at least the small sample we have to see did)

That spin move out of trouble was great but then to see him use leg speed to run around and hit a short target was awesome

And those tackles are just brutal

I'm gonna say this looks a fair bit better than even Live 1 but we'll see come release

We've still got a video from at least Norh Melbourne so hopefully that comes soon also

That player is highlighted blue, which indicates its being controlled by one of the players rather than the AI. They'd probably had little time with the game, so I wouldn't expect them to have all the nuances of the gameplay down like how to effectively switch and use players appropriately. A game against a full AI side would give us a better indication of what it's capable of, but we're not likely to get that, so some of these things can be put down to the human players just not pressing the right buttons at the right times.

I mean, I agree with you, because that was my point. That we are all frothing the space and evasion of Heath Shaw, but it won't be possible against AI or a vaguely competent human opponent.

This confused me.... press B for set shot when they are clearly playing on PS4 (bottom right)? wtf...?

Game looks great tho.
Good pickup.

Must have forgotten to change the button over. Hopefully only something overlooked in a pre-release version of the game rather than what's been shipped.

Or maybe they weren't really playing the game at all.

Aussie Rules Footy on the NES looked better than this crap! Let EA or 2k make these games in future.
'Let' EA or 2K make these games. Not really how it works m8. You think the AFL knocked back big offers from EA and 2K to go with Wicked Witch?
