Don’t mind Collingwood to make the 8 at $5.50.

Historically speaking there is usually 1 team that comes from the bottom 4 and has a spike the next season and I see the Pies as the most likely. They also still have a lot of stars/very good players (Grundy, Moore, Adams, Crisp, Elliot, Howe back) that could prove that last year was a bit of an anomaly. Would also make sense with a first year coach (as one usually is a success straight away)

The Pies still $16 on betfair for the flag.

They play the Demons then the Swans (in Sydney).

If they were to win both, how far in do you think their odds would come?

If they get a Top 4 spot and secure that, they surely go under 9/2 surely.

Even if they could win 1 of their next two, odds should be somewhere between 9/2 and 9/1 id imagine.

can you stop speaking in fractions, its no 1980, nor Europe.

Even if Pies come top 4 there is absolutely no way they are 5.50 for the flag.

1U Carlton to miss the 8 @$4
I think they lose there next 3
this is such a bad bet.

Back Bris, Melb & Coll against them in a multi - 1.4*1.4*2 gets you almost $4 (every chance Carl are faves vs Coll too, they are rated higher by markets just), Carlton can also still play finals if they lose the next 3 (around 40-45% of the time)

Its common to use fractional odds on UK websites? whats the problem with that?

SkyBet in the UK always use fractional odds for their #RequestABet options and listed options. If you dont like it, you can get your 'conversation calculator' champ.

Fun guy you are

And teamlenny I really do respect your opinions on the BigFooty board. I know you only have 73 posts on here but you seem to know alot about sport, the numerical side of betting.

I know you have avoided or tried to swerve a few questions of mine in the past. eg questioning whether you worked in the bookmaking industry/sportsbook industry. And yeah I think its common knowledge that there are industry workers following this thread/Punting Board of this site. (People can say all they want whether sportsbook read these threads or not- that debate is another one for another day). I also respect that being a fairly anonymous forum, there is no policy to reveal identification or personal info. Its just the way you speak which for me I guess is a bit of a giveaway.

I feel like you work in the sports betting industry in some way, shape or form , and as a forum we are richer for it. (At the end of the day betting I guess is not about pleasing others, its about 1) beating the books 2) beating other punters to get ahead on a certain bet) Its a bit supply v demand with odds/lines and having debates and questioning of others bets, is good and constructive. I must admit I dont agree with alot of stuff that you say, but I admit I respect you more . Your the kind of guy I feel like I could get into a debate for days, months, years over a topic and at the end of the day Id probably shout you out for drinks if I bumped into you at a bar. Over the last few weeks Ive tried to avoid explaining my AFL bets or posting too many bets up related to footy, as I think Im getting a bit picked on. I dont think ive ever claimed to be a genius at betting. I bet for the moment more for the moment with instinct & gut. Ill explain my bets , here and there from time to time. And thats the beauty of footy I guess , its the varying opinion.

this is an Australian site though and 90% of the users are probably too young to even know what fraction = what decimal, it gets confusing when you jump from one to another

I also avoided you when you asked ASL after my first couple posts, I have been betting seriously for a decade or so, everything I've said is fairly basic information everyone would know

bet365 is a site that Australians can access, and Im pretty sure you have options of using : Fractional /Decimal and American. When Im using my Twitter feed to post and interact I'd talk in those terms. Im a guy born in the 80's btw. Im probably going to still speaking the same language mixing decimal and fractional.

It was just a bit of a joke and if it offended you I apologise.

Your level of knowledge of betting is at a high level. That I think can it be attributed to your experience. Even as a punter, when I had 10 years of experience, I wouldnt say it was 'basic' knowledge. Having more years betting is helpful and i guess you always look to improve your knowledge and learn from mistakes. And yeah I wont lie I did cop some heavy losses in my early years.

I would love to follow some of your tips if you have something like a subscription service or something like that . (As I haven't seen too many of your tips posted online yet) I know a winner when I see one. Take that as a bit of a compliment.

This is not a dig at you, but a general comment to anyone, if a person is going to communicate with others, wouldnt it make sense to do so in a manner in which is easily processed and understood by others?

To further this point I guess when I'm chatting to the US Crowd /audience, i speak in Moneyline terms. (eg +200, +5000 )

Australians and the younger generation like to speak decimals.

(and yes occasionally I have to get my calculator out)

yep fair enough. Ill take that on board.

As an example in another field, I see at the gym a lot of times personal trainers, throwing names of muscles with their origins and insertions and how they work to impress their clients and all they end up doing is confusing the poor client.

Unlike you that has had a solid background at university, these drop kicks have barely completed a basic training course in PT and have either memorized or regurgitated what they heard on youtube or instagram. Instead of dumbing it down, they continue to throw so much useless and senseless information at the client, that the client ends up so reliant on them as a crutch to get through training.

I digress.....

Im about to hit training, if in case you wondering why I have gone off on a tangent.:$

Lack of fractions in betting is why Australia's numeracy is running low.

Watch an AFL game from the late 90s and two things will confuse viewers. 1) Norm Short and 2) 7/4.

I presume Bookies will offer unders on Pies because their followers will load up no matter the odds.

It wasn't that long ago the transmission of odds from the race track was prohibited. The odds could be described but the language used was 'Out 3/4 of point', 'half the each way quote' and other perculiar codes in order to get the message out to the listener. The youth of today miss out on that joyful education.
