I'm gonna cry the day PS2 dies. Because I'll probably never buy a PS3 until it's about $150.

Not really, IR have already made a next-gen game and it was stated on this board that they have the engine ready to make a game on it.The PS2 is almost dead and it costs a lot of money to upgrade to a next gen development team and also takes a fair while to shift your knowledge to next gen.

Permission(Licensing and Money). So what exactly are they waiting for?
No, they made an engine for a next-gen Gaelic game, obviously they could just run the basics from that to the AFL one.they made the engine without being given the money? Eager beavers.
This should be in the "games" subforum but anyway.
There basically isn't a big enough market for AFL games. We are left with only little companies like IR Gurus making them and even that seems to have stopped. It may be a few years before we see another IR Gurus AFL game. Maybe another big company will come out with one in the mean time but I don't know.
There are some management games floating around, most noticably Footy Fanatic (known as FF) and Total Aussie Rules (TAR) which are both free games now.
