Shattered. :(

The game was lost in the last 5 minutes of the 2nd quarter though. We completely stopped and went back to the defensive shit that has cost us so many times in the past. They slammed on two late goals which left us only a mere 3 points ahead at half time. Even we had gotten another one, and stretched it out to a four goal lead, we may have run away with it.

Toasts: Pendlebury, Toovey, Tarrant, Krakouer, Clokes 1st quarter and thought Browny competed well.

The rest were either woeful or very average. It's going to be a long summer and I hope this burns in the belly for the entirety of next year.

On a final note, thanks Mick for everything you have given the Collingwood Football Club. It's been an honor to witness your greatness first hand and wish you all the best with your future endeavors. :thumbsu:

Don't be to disheartened Pies fans. We're streets ahead of every other team except Geelong, and will still go into next year as favorites. Can't wait for Buckley's new game plan

TBH I'm still celebrating last years win. Back to back would have been surreal. Beats '03 when I felt like crying after losing 2 in a row.

Thought you had us at half time. Seriously I had just about thought it was over for another year.

The Pies have such a skilled young side - you will be back - and for some years to come IMO.

I am seriously a Malthouse fan - Master coach. Really feel for the guy who gave so much to your club.

Thanks for helping to create a really good game - and I know, like many older Pies fans will, what it is like to lose a GF. I am still trying to get over '08 !

All the best for the seasons ahead.

Well having nobody to stand up in the final 1/4 and a bit in a Grand Final hurts
What happened to Cloke in the 2nd half? Was on fire early and then just seemed to drop off.
Harry Taylor started the first half on Cloke, but struggled to get his form up.

Lonergan, who usually plays on the #1 forward for us anyway, played on Cloke for the 2nd half, and that's when Taylor played himself into some form and Cloke went quiet.

Having been on the end of the wrong side of the ledger in 08 I have to pass on the commiseration's.

Have no doubt that the Pie's will bounce back from this too good of a team see a lot of Geelong in them

A huge thank you to Mick Malthouse to bought this club back onto it's feet and now in one of the best Posistions it's been in for years.

He bought us our first flag in 20 years last year and i couldn't be more grateful will miss you Mick good luck with your future :):thumbsu:

lol yes they would.

Geelong are mentally soft look at 08 GF when the played a physical Hawks team, they started seeing shadows.

Brisbane had a better line across every part of the game were as skilled as Geelong as big (if not bigger) and had 1 ingredient we lacked PHYSICALITY.

with all respect mate, give it a rest, don't try and take anything
Away from the Cats, show a bit of class FFS.

The player bashing on here is terrible....seriously.

We lost..which is probs more due to circumstance than players.

As for the Dawes bashing...ffs. He had a fantastic finals series last year. This season was interrupted with injury...Hawkins is finally coming good. KPP take a while to build.

People here are idiots, no wonder I hardly post or read the stuff on here.

Where did I take anything away from them about todays game?

They were the better team and deserved the win but they are not better then the lions side and the Hawks showed that rough house tactics made them unstuck.

Something the lions excelled at and they were equally as skilled as Geelong but with a better forward line, no disgrace in being 2nd best side in the modern era.

Mate, people here are not idiots.

They are hurting and entitled to their opinion, which imo have been well measured and moderate and gracious.

No point turning this into an argument, but is this really the thread to bring up your thoughts about that? There is no way of measuring which team was better anyway, IMO the Cats will give it an almighty shake next year as well, they are now even with the Lions, 3 cups each, end of story.

We tried our hardest today, but were simply outplayed by a better team, on the day.

Still have a lot of respect for the club, and I'm grateful for the enormous enjoyment that they have given me over the years.

Looking forward to seeing Bucks at the helm next year, and seeing some of our promising young guns come through.

Hold your heads up Pies, you've represented the club proudly this year and last!

On the bright side, Geelong lost in 08 and came back hungrier than ever :thumbsu:
And hey, at least we weren't beaten by Stuart Dew :D, now that would hurt!

Couldn't run it out today, too many under-done and injured players.
Good effort but weren't hungry.

Congratulations to Geelong and even though that trophy cabinet is getting a bit full as of late, enjoy it!

Two magnificent sides - head and shoulders above everyone else. And not just for this year.
In an era of great sides, certainly the two greatest.
So proud of The Cats. Be proud of your boys.
Respect. :thumbsu:

Dawes very poor, too.
Thought Dawes was quite good, actually. Certainly a lot better than the Hawthorn game.

Considering the extreme confidence most Collingwood supporters displayed before the match it must be a really disappointing loss for you guys.
"Extreme confidence"? Spare me the bullshit. Most of us recognised that our form going in was poor and we had injury clouds over key personnel.

What happened to Cloke in the 2nd half? Was on fire early and then just seemed to drop off.
He was wrestling with several octopi every time the ball came near him. Umpires didn't give a ****.

Ironically, j-pod going off injured changed the game. They had to change their setup and they ran away with it from that point on.
Yeah, it was shades of Kosi into the ruck in the drawn GF last year.

Look, losing is pretty gutting, there's no doubt about it. But look at the guys who beat us today, they won in 2007, lost in 2008 just like we've managed to do. But they stuck around and won another two flags in three years after that! There's a lot to look forward to as a Pies fan with a young, talented list to be proud of. We just need to keep improving every year.

no, we were beaten by tom ****ing hawkins.

Commentators say that 'to win a premiership, everything has to go right', and basically 2011 was a year where a lot of things didn't go right, particularly at the pointing end of the season.

Premierships are rarely lost on the day. It’s how you pace the season and partic the months leading up that is key

On the day, yes we can harp about injured players, but Wood and Goldsack would not have won us the game. People who are saying 'we don't bring injured players in' .. I have 2 words
(1) Stevie J
(2) Buddy

Jolly wasn't mobile, but boys he WON the hitouts w 34! Would Wood, who has improved but is not there yet, and who hasn't played for a month done much better? I doubt it.

Would Goldsack had beaten Hawkins? Cmon

We did well match them for three quarters.

We lost because
1) We had too many injured players at this pointy end of season, and hence were out of form. Maxwell, Toov, Dawes, Reid, Jolly, etc
2) Undisciplined acts, that meant Dasiy and Heater had lost their Killer form.
3) We became the hunted – All our players. So our young players who went under opposition radar like Beams, Sidey, Blair get more time put into them. Even then, they will have the second year lull.
4) We played a team that sole purpose was to beat the pies and they did. There were steeled after their prelim loss, that no doubt burned them all summer.
- They developed a game plan to beat the Mick Press
- Had a fresh new coach who reinvigorated the team
- Brought in gun young players to bring speed to balance their older (who have we really developed this year as a first team player? Only fas as sub? That what happens when you win a premiership, you get comfortable with what you have)
- And who had v little of (1) and (2)

And one could say all of the above is part of the post premier challenge.

I still believe OUR BEST would beat the CATS BEST. But we had too many player below their best.

SO HOW TO DO FEEL? I am not gutted though obviously disappointed. We were beaten by a better team. Possibly one of the greatest teams of all – they are TRIPLE premiers!!

But we CAN and MUST improve.

I am happy that bucks in coming in. Mick’s gameplan has met it’s useby date, just as he predicted – and it’s time for Bucks to bring a change. Look what Scott has done!!! I love Mick, but it’s time for young and fresh blood. Kudos for Eddie and team for orchestrating the change.

GO THE PIES 2012!!
