Hey,

Im traveling overseas currently and want to watch the pies win the gf later this month :D;) and was wondering how to find out where it is going to be on. I'm going to be in holland (outside Amsterdam on that day) Also, do satelite providers offer it as an option as im going to be staying with these dutch chicks who are throwing a party that weekend and i'd like to get them to order it if it is possibe to do so through cable / sat tv.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Based on last season, Sky Sports out of the UK had a live coverage of the match, the only AFL they showed all year, mind you. This year Setanta Sports (again based in the UK) seem to have taken over the rights, showing three live games a weekend, and if my schedule here is to be believed all of this weekend's matches in the first week of the Finals. I assume that therefore Setanta Sports will be taking a live coverage on Grand Final day.

All of which might not be of any great help to you if you're in Amsterdam, although when I was there a couple of months back a couple of the hotels had Sky Sports 1. I'd imagine that to watch the GF in Amsterdam you would need to hunt down an Aussie bar of some description, not a type of place that I'm overly familiar with in my own expereinces in that city. Others might know more of locations etc.

However, if it's a Collingwood Premiership that you hope to see my friend, I suggest Disneyland Paris (in particular Fantasyland) might be the place you're looking for.:D

Isn't the UK 9 hours behind? So the game at 1000 would be 7.00pm Melb time? And 0500 would be 2pm Sat arvo Melb time? (I might be wrong)

http://www.aussieruleseurope.com/countries/holland.php email the contact on that page and see if they are having a GF function. A lot of the international clubs would be and they are generally a lot of fun as you get to watch in a drinking environment with other people that love the game.
(their direct website http://www.devliegendehollanders.nl)

Contact one of the expat organisations and see if they have anything planned or if there is an australian expat organisation.
I found this link for an aussie party in amsterdam so they might have something planned for GF or may be able to direct you to the right place

OK I just found out more info on the Dutch event but it will be held in Amsterdam (if you can get in there for a day ... doesn't take long to get anywhere in EU)

AFL Grand Final

Social EventsPosted by Matt Fri, August 17, 2007 13:20:42
This year we will be at Coco's Outback in Amsterdam to watch the grand final live on September 29th. Stay tuned for more details. I'll be in the corner crying over the destiny of the Tigers, the wooden spoon again, at least you can't be relegated in the AFL.

When i was in Amsterdam recently I went to a bar called the Satellite Sports Cafe in the Leidesplein district. Everyone says they're great for organising overseas sports events.

Setanta Sports (live) and EuropSports (delayed telecasts) get all the AFL action over in this part of the world. Your other bet is, as someone said, getting on the net and finding some of the Aussie Rules teams around and organising something with them as most will throw some sort of party.

The Grand Final will be at 5.30am in UK/Ireland (9 hours behind), and 6.30am in West and Central Europe, and 7.30am in Eastern Europe.

For those in the Dublin the Woolsehd will no doubt show it, but whether they can get a license to show it at 5.30am is another matter. I'd say they'll tape the game and show a recordin at opening time (9.00am). So it'll be a matter of just hitting the cone of silence for a few hours and making sure the phones not on so you can't get any texts from back home. But then again they may get a license to show it live at 5.30.

Your best shot would probably be running down to K-Mart and buying the dvd.. That way you can watch it later this month, plus any other time you feel the urge.

Did DVDs exist when you last won though? You might be stuck with video tape :p

Jsut got back from Saigon yesterday. On their cable net work they have the Australia channel and all games are played on about a 1.5 hour delay. I watched the Port West Coast game from a pub called the Blue Gecko Bar. Run by a Vietnamese guy called "Simmo" who loves his AFL (Tigers supporter) and who's favpourite saying is "Suck piss all day". Quite a character.

I will actually be in Japan when the Grand Final is on, have to seek somewhere out to watch perhaps.

I'm over here too working, and it's pretty much killing me that Geelong decided to pull their fingers out the year I go overseas.

Anyway, Borgsta recommended this place a little while ago. While I haven't had the chance to check it out yet, I'm hopefully going to make it there on the day. Tokyo is an hour behind Melbourne time, so the bounce (I'm assuming) will be around 1:10pm local time.

Hope this helps :thumbsu:

Edit: What Predator said. The link I gave is in english though :thumbsu:

Awesome, thanks :)

I will see what happens, would have to convince the better half to go watch AFL while on holiday. Probably would only do it if West Coast or Collingwood (her team) made the final.

is anybody familar with AFL GF coverage in sth america? Santiago - Chile to be more precise? :thumbsu:
the australia network is only an option to those in Asia, Sub continent and parts of ther pacific?
