A warning to the faint of heart, this post involves references to Collingwood...

forewarned is forearmed

No one seems to have posted this yet so I will because it is interesting.

"Magpie" to adorn Minardis in 2001

An Australian football team will get its biggest commercial exposure yet with the announcement that its logo will appear on the European Minardi cars this year.

AFL club Collingwood will have a logo of its mascot, a Magpie bird, adorned across the flanks of the Minardis in 2001.

Minardi’s new black and white livery, thanks to Team Boss Paul Stoddart’s European Aviation sponsor, will provide the perfect marketing platform for Collingwood, whose theme is also black and white – the colour of a Magpie.

Stoddart, originally a Melbournian and fan of Collingwood, contacted the club’s President Eddie McGuire about the arrangement. Collingwood will be well represented at the launch of Minardi’s new car in the week leading up to the Australian Grand Prix

‘Not even the big clubs in Europe get onto the Formula One cars,’ said McGuire.

The marketing link-up is the latest in McGuire’s entrepreneurial term as President. Last year he struck a deal with renowned Italian fashion house Versace to fit out the whole

My opinion.. its good to see AFL getting international exposure, even if it is Collingwood

The MINARDI's are the worst team in Formula one,so some would say its appropriate that there in Collingwood colours.

BTW,theTYRELL GP team was in Black & White colours in 1998 and were last all year.

hehe I too thought it was ironic that the backrunning F1 team is now aligned with a backrunning AFL team. Of course I fully expect Minardi to improve over the next few years, as should Collingwood (as much as it pains me to say it).

And Tyrell.. I barely remember them. Thought they folded well before 98.
