For teams 1-6 it makes no difference. Teams 7 and 8 are shafted but for the neutral its more games, so good.

It should make a diff for the top 6, as it will eliminate 7th and 8th from having any premiership threat at all. Imagine a wildcard team from 7th to 10th make a prelim. Would get obliterated.

It will massively boost finishing 6th over 7th.

A week off and a game less vs an extra game and then an away game.

8th vs 9th would have made more sense.

I've noticed that almost every major change to the finals system, fans have sooked about. Then they get over it 12 months later. I call them the "leave the game alone" regressives. That's what they are. If not riff-raff, then "regressives"

You cant add three teams to the league and not alter the structure of the competition.

The AFL has gone from 4 to 5 to 6 to 8 and now to 10 as the number of teams has increased. This is a perfectly normal thing to do as the league has grown bigger.

Two extra games that mean something and expanding to Top 10 over Top 8 means more meaningful H&A games and a huge incentive to finish Top 6.

Most of the major changes in terms of adding teams, the national competition, number of teams in the finals, ground rationlization have all been positive legacies. The "leave the game alone" regressives sooked about all of them. Yes there have been a few missteps, but the big stuff has generally been done right.

Adding two teams to the finals, when the number of teams has increased by two (soon to be three) should hardly be controversial

No issues with it.

Keeps more teams in contention for longer. 2023 would have been a cracker of a season with teams down to 13th fighting for a finals position in the final round.
