Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

What recruiting?

Doesn't the question explain itself:confused:. You're just going to play yourself and the juniors, that's it? Any guys going to follow you to Andergrove or are just thinking players will pop up out of the ground?

Also can you change your sig it's really annoying me brah.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Stephen, two swans boys are following Edwards to be assistant coaches.

Thanks for that Sherrin. Why are you avoiding the question PH? Come on brah, let the cat out of the bag? Was Sherrin on the money, two Swans players going with you?

Could possibly reveal the names of said persons but will leave the ball in PH's court for a while to see if he is willing to share.

I think most know by now that Dean Hartly & Phil Andrew will be the assisting me at Andergrove next season.
Maybe even a few more to follow!
Actually recruiting has been ok so far, the club will definately fill a Senior side with still the hope to get enough numbers to also fill a Reserves side.

If anyone is interested the club will be having its 1st training session Sunday 21st November at the Harbour parkland, Marina end, 4pm.
A great chance to be apart of a brand new culture and a family environment.
Go Roos!

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

The last thing the Mackay league needs is another weak team to dilute the player depth....no way this Andergrove kindergarden team have paid their dues and deserve to go in against the men.
Wont work and this proves what a shambles footy is in here despite all the money pumped in by the AFL.

Abit harsh , every team has to start some where, look at Gold coast & West Sydney.
The Brizy Lions ended up alright!
And what are these dues we need to pay Johnathon?

The more teams in Mackay the better, regardless if it effects the league standard short term.
Who wants to keep playing the same team 4-5 times a year.

As for the kindergarden statement, we'll just see, our spine will be as big and strong as any with the kids to be positioned around them.

Agree with JB on this one PH. Talent pool isn't any where near good enough for another team, YET. I'm happy for Swans players to head to Andergrove as it thins them out even more and gives the mighty Tigers more chance of owning 2011:thumbsu:.

If the AFL Mackay Board are wanting to grow the senior comp PH then why have they sent a letter to Moranbah trying to get them to drop back to the reserves next Year?

Where to for the reserve comp next season? Bakers and swans struggled big time this year for players, how are they going to get sides especially with Andergrove targeting some of each clubs players.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

This is an absurd situation and proves the local board have no guts or any idea at all what they are doing.
From memory last year they instructed the new club to play as the Bulldogs reserve grade team playing out at Moranbah. This never happened and then on whatever whim of these folk they changed their minds and admitted Andergrove as a senior team for next year....huh???..hello:eek:
The League"s standing inthe community continues to slip with next to no coverage in the media with the ultimate inult seeing the local rags retirement age sports writer reporting on games he never sees and holds up for ridicule.
Just as well we have had a player drafted from here in the past because i certainly can't see another one in the near future.

From my understanding the League proposed to Mooranbah to drop back to reserves so they could have the oppertunity to win more games and experience more/some success.
It was only a suggestion for their benifit nothing forcefull behind it.

For starters the reserves comp unless drastically improved would be better off cancelled.
Players that show no committment/dont train, dont pay fees, insurance etc... yet know they can rock up for game in the ressies.
All they do is cost the club more money than what they are worth, shape up or ship out i say.
A healthy reserves comp is a great aquisition for all senior teams but it aint that way in Mackay.

And as for Andergrove targeting players, players aint gunna leave their club if their happy with their current surroundings and atmosphere

Anyone with half a footy brain would realise there is no appeal whats so ever to enter a new team starting off in the reserves:
Firstly- How can you recruit/attract players to a reserve team , what senior player from another town or comp would want to play reserves?
Secondly- What business would want to sponsor a reserves team?

The league would only allow Andergrove to enter last season if they where to begin in the reserves as a compromise to the current clubs that protested it.
The Mackay clubs where/are worried it effect their clubs with player numbers etc...istead of encourage Andergrove to enter because it would cause the clubs to work harder.
The reason Andergrove got accepted into the league for season 2011 had nothing to do with the league, this time Andergerove contacted Andrew Dimitriou pleading their case of the term in which Andergrove would only be accepted into the reserves etc... Dimitriou made a few phone calls and next minute the Roos are accepted into the Senior comp.

Yor right about the AFL media couverage is a joke and its something im trying to improve, Charlie Payne the sports journo would be more suited to lawn bowls but nothing stopping you Johnny reporting on the games and sending it into the paper.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Guys I read your input over the last year or so with interest, can I ask a question of you all, was everyone happy with the state of MAFL before Andergrove came along?? Over the last 5-7 years one or 2 teams dominating the league, BC a basket case, Moranbah predictable, MC hanging around the edges and ES competitve on their day? I smell a fresh breeze blowing in some changes, suck it in boys!!!!! So from now on if you want to stimulate discussion, can it be something positive instead of rehashing the same old tripe??? THE MIGHTY ROOHAS ARE HERE TO STAY!
Can't wait for the draw so we can see who our first victims will be!
